Anonymous writes "Criminals from Spain and Italy strike at vulnerable bidders. The latest scam is simple and ebay provides the means. Too easy, these folks are registering at ebay and establishing a short but clean history by purchasing inexpensive items.
They then go to high priced items and view bid history. From bid history, they can send emails to every person that is interested in that item and has placed a bid. They simply cut_n_paste the details from the item you bid on and send the solicitation to you via email. Actually, ebay sends it for them! This is all supported because ebay provides them with the means to do so through a couple clicks of the mouse. Why does ebay allow anyone access to the bidders?? These folks are quite persistent but are easy to spot. They have broken English (worse than bubba, it's horrible), and they make statements like I be use UPS to ship your address after payment received. I send tracking number all of which is on items that weigh over 1000 lbs (UPS has its limits).
In the last 4 days I have bid on 2 higher priced items while they were very low in price. Both bids have resulted in over 30 offers from folks with broken english claiming to be in either Spain or Italy, and requiring that the money be sent via Western Union..... That's 30 spams from 2 bids! The trailer that ebay sends you when the spam arrives states that ebay does not tolerate spam (kind of silly). The best part is when you try to follow the link to report the user to ebay and offer evidence. It took me over 30 minutes to finally track and backtrack throiugh ebays pages to actually find a place where I could send them a message. No reply is sent back?? Who knows, it's probably filtered out.
