I just want to introduce myself as a new member to your forum.
I'm Chuck, a retired police officer from New Mexico, USA. I'm not new to computers but am new to the computer security angle.
I have a generic computer, 1.8G Athlon and 512 RAM currently with AVG free antivirus, AVG antispyware, and am running the PowerShadow 2.6 virtualization program which seems to be very good, simple to use and reliable. I haven't see or heard much about it, so don't know how it tests out as far as security goes.
My hobbies, competition handgun and rifle shooting, hunting and fishing, camping, almost anything that doesn't sound like work. I also exercise regularly and try to stay in shape by walking and using the Bullworker.

Greetings, Sir. Welcome to CastleCops. I have to wonder about that sentence, though. Hunting, fishing, target practice, and using a bullworker are things you like to do, but don't want to do anything else that sounds like work?
Boy, does CastleCops have a deal for you. We are offering you the chance to fold instead of ironing. Yes, we can save you time and trouble, and you can help save lives at the same time. All you have to do is download a small program from Stanford University (we are Team 35586 and look forward to hitting 8 million points today) and your computer will do the work for you.
That would leave you plenty of time to hunt, fish, and deal with the nuts in our forum.
Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't point out that you can become a premium member of CastleCops with a one-time easy payment of $10. That get's you a badge of honor, like the one between my frog and my spinny thing.
You can't get a frog, but the spinny thing is free if you fold, and it feels good.
Of course, there are several other things you could do, but they require something that almost seems like work. You could write for us, just tell us cop stories for the front page. Your level of involvement it totally up to you.
Welcome to the show, and may your active retirement be enjoyable.

This is just one of the times that I happen to be around so I'll send
my welcome note too, as others did when I started.
Everyone here is just grand and so generous with their computer
knowledge.
So as well as a bit of social contact, we get to draw on all that
knowledge when we need it while contributing something
useful by running the program. So, it's a win, win, win situation.
Nice to meetcha mate

Thank you for your kind consideration of our sensitivities Red mate.
There's never a time
That's right for a rhyme
If you just haven't got the
right rhythm.
Without the right metre
The pome will just peter
Which will be a complete bloody
stuff up that leaves an awkward
schism.
See?

Welcome Chuck!! Always glad to welcome law enforcement types around here to try and
keep some of these naughty types in check {/hiddentext}not mentioning any names Tim{/hiddentext}.
You say you like competition type stuff... folding is our biggest competition at CastleCops.
Weekly stats are announced and a lot of the people who get passionate about their folding get
pretty competitive (passion is an an easy thing to feel whenever you realize that you've just saved
a life or two every time you turn on your computer).
We get no monetary reward, but we get the fun/comraderie of the group and the
warm fuzzy feelings of helping others, and the best thing is.. it costs us nothing and
only uses something that we weren't using anyway, spare CPU cycles.
Doesn't it sound like your loves?? It's guaranteed NOT to sound like work!! lol
AND -- you get a green spinny thingee (its official name). _________________ If not us, who?

OK, I'll bite... What's a Bullworker?
I'll bet there are some awesome places to walk in New Mexico. I'm from the Buffalo, NY area and
once you've done the walk by the Niagara River and Niagara Falls, you pretty much have to
travel to the middle of the state to get to the Adirondeck mountains to get some awesome walking.
Our Southern Tier is pretty nice in the warmer months, but not a good idea at this
time of year. It is known as the "snow belt", but it has great skiing if you go for that.
(Not quite sure I understand those who strap waxed wood to their feet and shove themselves
down mountains, but then again, I don't know what a Bullworker is either!!) _________________ If not us, who?

Bullworker is just the most wonderful exercise device ever created. Search for bullworkerusa and you'll find it. Despite what you'll read, it takes about 30 - 45 minutes a day.
I'm very familiar with the NE, especially New England. Born and raised in Vermont, back before Vermont turned into the Twilight Zone.
Hunting, fishing, camping, prowling ghost towns and old cavalry forts, practicing for competition, exercise - none of it that is work, although getting tuned up for competition can feel like it at times. Exercising is something I've just always done, so that doesn't qualify either. Work is something you don't want to do but The Boss says it needs to be done. She always has a long list of stuff I try to avoid.
