|
|
Hey everyone..
I'm having a hell of a time trying to google this one so I figured I'd ask here.
We're having problems with the autoplay. It'll run once, after a fresh restart, no problems there. Once we're done using whatever it is (usually an M2 chip, but it's all flash drives), we'll safely remove hardware and stop it. We take it out. Later on, doesn't matter when, we try to put the memory card back in the drive but the computer won't run it. It doesn't recognize it. The light will flash as though it's in, but it's not listed anywhere on our comp, even if we search it.
I've tried everything.. looked into regedit according to my googling.. made autoplay request what to do everytime something is inserted.. even did a whole bunch of scans, hijackthis and blah.. nothing is working!
Please please please tell me someone has a solution. The only thing we can do now which is a bit of a nuissance is to reboot.. everytime.. It'll recognzie it the first time around but it's as though it ignores it afterwards.. wha??
Help!

Hi Cudni..
I had a look at that page, tried to look through my eventviewer.. what am I looking for exactly, or where am I supposed to be looking? I'm fairly quick to pick up on computers and all but I've never dealt with this program before..

you are looking for errors and once you find them post both error id and source unless you are happy to research yourself. We are trying to find more clues as to why there are problems with flash drives

I'm looking at the program but honnestly, I really don't know how to look for the errors or what to do with the event viewer. I read through that webpage, I just don't know how to use this. I can click on random stuff and end up somewhere, but I don't know what it means or what to actually do with it.. Is there a site or something that explains how to properly use this?

Hey, sorry I hadn't looked at this in a few days since I hadn't gotten a reply. I went right to my control panel first thing, everything there is fine and is set accordingly. I'm online at all times when the computer is on, it's automatic.. my files/music/videos are set to request me what to do.. so, that should automatically trigger the pop up to ask me but it only does it first go around..
So, I guess you can tell.. we still have this problem.. no solution yet..

Hi Natron,
Windows Vista is so darn strange. I have all the Autoplay settings as well & half the time mine don't work right either.
Actually, I should say most of the time. If I plug in my memory stick with music on it, sometimes it starts playing right away, but many times I have to open Autoplay & press "Play with Media Player" & no matter how many times I check for it to do it all the time, it doesn't.
Why bother having a feature that doesn't work? I've had more complaints about Autoplay not working on family's & friend's new Vista machines, it's not funny
I contacted Microsoft, because if one has any prob with Vista they are supposed to help you unless you've changed the motherboard and/or HD.
They didn't even know what to do!!!
Sorry I couldn't help you there buddy. I thought that might work, but obviously not.
We'll get it worked out though, I hope? I hate to see when nobody can rectify a person's puter probs on here!
Perhaps there's some other volunteer on here who knows more about Autoplay? (Hint, Hint)
Anyhow, take care & I'll look in from time to time. I'll see if I can find more info about Autoplay on the web. _________________ Warm Regards,

BTW...I just started experiencing this myself with my Autoplay. It worked OK for a few days & then went all weird on me! _________________ Warm Regards,

Ya, funny thing is when we first got our comp a few months back we had no issues with this. Then all of a sudden, maybe when we had that big update in Sept/Nov I think it was.. that's when a few things went a bit weird. Maybe that's a coincidence too though.
I guess vista is a bit too new to really get all the bugs figured out. Some day soon I hope lol..
You can at least force to play the media.. I can't do that. Only way to recognize the media is to reboot. I don't believe there's anything physically wrong with the comp or my memory sticks.. My guess is that it's just some setting somewhere.. But I wouldn't actually know that of course.. just a guess.
Too bad the people who made the damn o/s can't even figure it out themselves.. makes me think there's no hope lol.

Just in case anyone is wondering about this.. I've run hijackthis, avg, adaware, spybot and also removed some non essential start up things.. Somehow, somewhere along the way, this problem has resolved itself. I can't tell you which program did it, if I had a virus on here or whatever that caused the problem.. But everything loads fine now. Weird eh?
I do know when I had done some scans we had zlob and soemthing else that I can't remember, plus other crapware. Not sure which of those could cause this problem but either way, it's fixed?? lol.
Good luck to anyone else who can't figure this thing out either.

Not weird - you have a lot of different things going on, with a (or even more than one) Malware infection, plus removal of some other programs that may have also been interfering with the Autoplay - the good thing is that your PC is safer, and works like it is supposed to. _________________ <img src="http://www.castlecops.com/zx/johnlgalt/johnlgalt%20sig.png">
