|
|
Hey,
I've been doing research on the net, and I see alot of people are having problems installing the sp1 update. I have now tried to install 4 times, over the last two days. I get to part 3 of 3 100%, and then it says service pack did not install reverting back to before the update. I did have a couple of driver (Realtek) updates in windows update before attempting the sp1 install. Could it be the realtek ac 97 driver? Or do I have to wait for possible other driver updates before attempting the install? Any suggestions would be welcome.
Thank you

The Realtek driver updated yesterday in wu though. Maybe uninstall the driver and try it then, and then reinstall the driver after?

Tried again, still no luck. I was thinking maybe it was the logitech driver for my webcam.

Uninstalled logitech drivers and software, but still got the same problems. I'm going to stay as I am until this is sorted out.

Logitech drivers are a known problem too - Donna over at CoU mentioned that she cannot install SP1 on her Dell laptop because of an integrated cam on her laptop that is using Logitech drivers.
I myself have not been able to get SP1 through WU, and I suspect it is because I use the MX Revolution mouse, and Logitech's SetPoint drivers.... _________________

Hi
It ain't easy! It failed six (6) times before it succeeded on this machine. Just stopped in the middle twice. Lost my connection once (dial-up). Oh yeah, about six (6) hours before it was done.

I tried RC 1 and the Beta before that - it slowed my boot times to a crawl - I mean to a crawl - 5-10 minutes to get to a login, and then another 3-5 minutes to get every thing to load. In fact, I use the no GUI boot and Show OS info settings in MSCONFIG - so I see a boot screen that looks exactly like it does if you boot into Safe Mode - *all* the time. With both those releases, it would add one line at a time, at a rate of 5-10 seconds per line - as if someone really really slow was typing the lines by hand. Then the fun began - after the screen was full, it would scroll up one line at a time, at a rate of 3-5 seconds, and then print a single line at the bottom of the screen once the space was cleared, again at a rate of 5-10 seconds per line, then revert back to scrolling up 1 line ever 3-5 seconds.
I could literally brew a pot full of coffee in the time it took to boot on those pre-release versions - so I am not in a hurry to install it now.
Shutdown was worse - I once waited 22 minutes for a shutdown - and there were no updates installing.... _________________
