Hello everyone
And thank you in advance for your help
I am having a lot of trouble with IE 7 freezing up when I click on links or even just opening it , sometimes ctrl alt delete helps but mostly its so screwed up I need to try to go to start> restart > buy more times then not , I need to press the reboot butoon on my tower . I have xp since 2006 - I have 2 gig memory and 250 hdd.
I think in order to solve my problems , I want to download firefox and make it my home page default browser instead of IE 7 or else maybe download IE8 beta ??
Can I have 2 browsers on my PC - besides IE 7 - Firefox ??
I want to download Firefox - Also what is Goggle Chrome ? is that a browser the same as firefox or opera ?
How is Opera by the way ??
Thank You

Hi Zalman00,
Yes - you can have 20 browsers on your system if you want, and run them all at the same time.
If IE7 is not running properly then I would steer clear of IE8 Beta - this could increase your problems. Instead, follow the instructions in this post by PCBruiser to restore IE7 to working order.
I use Firefox all the time, apart from the odd occasion when a site insists on using IE (Windows updates, for example). Opera is also a good browser but I find it rather cumbersome compared to Firefox.
Just download Firefox and install it. When you are asked if you want FF to be your default browser then answer Yes. Any links you click will automatically open in FF. Another browser I use for checking sites when other browsers will not connect is K-Meleon . It is based on the Mozilla engine (as is Firefox) but is very small and light.
If you install Firefox then I recommend downloading and installing the following as well:
McAfee Site Advisor for safer surfing
NoScript - also for safer surfing
IEView for convenience - if a site doesn't work in FF then right click the page and select 'View this page in IE' and all will be well again.
Hope this helps! _________________ Never stop learning

Mozilla's Firefox beats IE hands down in every way. It is much more secure and has mountains of "add ons and extensions" which give it even more abilities. Mozilla's ThunderBird mail programme is equally excellent, feature rich and secure. Outlook just pales into insignificance when compared. You will have to keep IE on your system to allow updates from Microsoft but stick with 7 don't go near 8 yet.

I have IE on my system but its not allowed to open ever.
Now Firefox is my default browser or choice, much more stable and secure wise, even my 4 year old uses it, lol.
You do not need IE to get windows Updates, have Windows update switch to Automatic in the Security Tab of Control panel, you can always click custom install so you can see what they are trying to offload on your system.
This saved me the huge hassle people have Recently with SP3 Patch which made heaps of people worldwide unable to access the net. As I am ahead of people in timewise in Australia, we usually get the dodgy ms patches warnings before anyone else.
But this will help you keep up to date and one step of the nasties so you dont have to worry about Opening IE and doing updates.
If what I said is confusing let me know and I will break it down step by step for Windows update for you

Hi Angela,
Thanks for the information. I have noticed in the past that some MS downloads just don't come through in Firefox and I have to switch to IE. I have followed your advice so can now look forward to using Firefox all the time.
Your kind assistance is appreciated.

Greetings hitbit,
You might want to consider IE Tab which is an addon for Firefox.
I use it to update Windows every month and it works fine.
Best regards,
RL

Your very welcome for me its a blessing to put it on and let it do its thing and I can always check to see it doent put something completely useless that I don't need lol.
I never forgo the security patches. Good suggestion below my post for the IE Tab but I found this to be annoying in Firefox but you might love it, you can pick it up under ads on and get more at Firefox's main add on page.
