(sorry, I added this q to another thread, but it didn't get a response there... and I need to figure out what I'm doing before AVG 7 stops updating at the end of this month!)

So I downloaded the free version of AVG 8 (having not noticed it existed the first time around), but when I tried to upgrade, it said that it wouldn't run on my OS - that it needed needed 'Windows 2000 SP4 and an Update Rollup Pack or higher'.

According to DxDiag, I'm running 'Windows 2000 Professional (5.0 Build 2195) Service'... which sounds similar to me, but apparently isn't similar enough.

Since AVG have decided they don't want to support me any more, I need to find a virus checker that will.

I want to be sure I get it right the first time though, since I've heard dire warnings of the peril that awaits ye who foolhardily install two virus checkers on the same PC. But if I'm going to uninsall AVG first, I don't then want the next program to say 'sorry, I won't work either', leaving me without any working virus checker!

So can anyone tell me one that they're confident will work on this version of Windows?

Thanks all,

J

If you have Service pack 4 then it will say "Windows 2000 Professional (5.0 Build 2195) Service Pack 4"

If you don't have it download and install it
