I think I may still have it saved from the debacle with my son.
In my "DOWNLOADS" folder I have something named: MAXBLAST4
Properties say it's an Application file.

Yes, floppy or CD whichever version you downloaded. If the other computer has the same manufacturer's HDD, then you can use the same one.

My son actually had 2 hard drives...a Maxtor and a Hitachi.
My daughter's is a Maxtor. I just want to make sure the MAXBLAST 4 application I saved is NOT the one used to ERASE the hard drive.
Says it is an APPLICATION
Also says it is a Diskette Creator for Windows...
Please let me know if I should use this or not.

Yes - Open MaxBlast and choose 'Create Bootable Media' from the main screen. You can then create a bootable floppy od CD. There is an instruction manual for MaxBlast here - see Chapter 7 for creating a boot disk.

Sounds to me like this is NOT diagnostics. Please follow PCBruiser's previous instructions on how to download and run the HDD diagnostics. Here is the website to get you going: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/
Mister2's instructions are good also, but they are not diagnostics. That will create a bootable CD so you can boot your computer if the OS takes a dive.

OK, I have downloaded the "SeaTools for Windows Setup" and have saved it to MY desktop.
Sorry for the inane questions BUT I am a bit skiddish at this point. I don't want to screw up MY pc. So, if one of you would be so kind as to give me a step-by-step as to HOW to create the floppy disk with this application on it, it would be greatly appreciated.
I am a bit afraid to open the MaxBlast 4 at this point on my pc...don't want to ERASE MY HARD DRIVE.....yikes.
I thank you for your help...as always.

It appears that these diagnostics run from within Windows instead of a CD. Double click on the setup file you downloaded and let it install to the default location. Then, go to \Program Files\Seagate and read the "Rich Text Document" they are instructions.
The Maxblaster is only going to erase (partition and format) your HD if you tell it to.

Went to install it and got this message...
This program requires a .NET framework of 2.0 or greater
I clicked ok but it got message that said that it did not install....ended prematurely.

Yes, you will need to install that (and it's updates) from Windows Updates. Choose the "Custom" button. Install the framework first, reboot, and then go back and install the updates.
