Hi everyone..my first ever post so i dont know if this is the right place so please forgive.
I have recently been infected by the Vitumonde virus, since that time (not sure if it is coincidence) i have not been able to access certain web sites both using Mozilla and IE7..for instance i cannot access any search engine sites such as yahoo, Lycos, altavista. I can access google but cannot search. I have run various spyware progs...Spyhunter, Spybot s&d, Lavasoft, spyware doctor, and still have the same problem. I have deleted all cookies and cleared out the cache. I am using windows firewall which i turned off to see if that was causing the problem still no good. Please help.....Bill

Check your Hosts file for entries that correspond with search engine sites that you cannot reach. Delete those entries.

Checked where i thought the host file was located
Windows/system32/drivers/etc and it did not exist. Just some files imHosts, oldhosts. I created new Hosts file using HostsXpert. There are no entries for the sites i cannot reach. When i did search for a Hosts file i did find one in Windows/I386. Still cannot reach some sites.

In your first post you mentioned that you were infected with Virtumundo; however it's not clear whether you removed the malware and if so how you accomplished that.

Try working through the MRP:

I used spyware doctor , lavasoft , spyhunter to remove Virtumonde, however i keep being reinfected. Unfortunately because of my inability to access any search engins i am finding it difficult to find the best advice to resolve my problem.

I tried to access the above link which was ok but i was unable to follow this link

Winfixer / WinAntiSpyware / WinAntiVirus Popups / Virtumundo victims only (Unsure? - then proceed to Step 4):
Please follow the Virtumundo Removal Instructions for all versions of Windows including Vista.

Looks as if i have had some success in removing Virtumundo using virtumondobegone, vundofix.exe and f-vmonde.exe. I can now search on google and reach yahoo. Thanks for your help
