Hello
Today I downloaded AVG 8 free.
When I open it the size is huge even in the restore down setting.
It is barely smaller than the maximize setting.
I can put mouse pointer on edges and shrink it some but not much.
At bottom left it says show notifications but it is so big they hang
off the bottom of my screen and I cant see them.
Is there a way to shrink AVG 8 to be smaller?
Its the only thing that does this.
I have a 17 inch monitor.
Thank You

I had the same issues on my laptop where the bottom edge of AVG's window was always below the taskbar. A number of other GUI problems led me to uninstall AVG8 and move on to another program. Perhaps these problems will be fixed in the next version.

Ok I had just installed AVG 8 yesterday.
Today when I turned on my comp my wallpaper
came up and I clicked on the firefox icon by start button it loaded so slow. I did some research (google) and tried this.
Open firefox
click on tools
click add-ons
Avg safe search I clicked disable.
Although I havent changed the settings in explorer
just looking it seems you can do the same thing.
Also I have seen where you can install AVG 8 without
the link scanner but it leaves a big red ! in the shortcuts bar. The way I did it above does not have an ! and still shows it active when you open AVG.
From my research it seems link scanner is slowing things down.
I will know more in next few days if this really helped
but for now it has made a big difference in speed.
My questions
Is this safe? Do I really need link scanner?
I still need to shrink it down if anybody knows how.
Couldnt find any info on that.
Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Hi Pilate
Is the AVG window just too large or is the text within too large as well? Any chance of a screenshot?
Thee are utilities out there to resize windows but I think there should be an easier way without using 3rd party apps.
Great tip about disabling Link Scanner - never thought to look there! I use McAfee SiteAdvisor in Firefox. Hovering the mouse over the SiteAdvisor rating on a search page shows why that rating was applied. Not vital but good for a quick check. _________________ Never stop learning

Hi Mister2
The whole AVG window is to large.
The text is probably right for the size of the window.
Update on speed..
Today when I turned on comp and clicked on firefox icon
it loaded pretty slow but when I click the icon again to open a 2nd page it loads quick. Its just opening the first page it is slow.
However when just surfing internet
the speed is just fine.

Hmm. I thought this could be cured by a quick addition to the registry but I'm not so sure now.
At this point I would try reinstalling over the existing installation. Your definitions should be kept but the program files will be overwritten.
I tried using the mouse to resize my window and it seems there is a minimum size below which it will not shrink. As you have found out. I'm sorry but I really don't know why your window is so big in the first place. _________________ Never stop learning

Well it seems the only way I can shrink it down
is by changing the screen resolution.
But that makes everything else smaller.
Thank you Mister2 _________________ EvenFlow

You're welcome - sorry I can't be of more help.
To be honest, if I were in the same position I would be very tempted to go back to 7.5 and hope the niggles with 8.0 had been ironed out by December (when support ceases for 7.5). _________________ Never stop learning
