|
|
I recently switched from Comcast internet to AT&T DSL, which turned out to be a pppoe connection instead of DSL.
My question is:
I have a Westell Versalink 327w Wireless DSL router/modem.
So instead of using the regular phone jack I am using the ethernet cable coming out of the wall and into the ethernet port 1 on the back of the router, and then another ethernet cable from port 2 to the computer.
The internet works fine in this way, and it even broadcasts a signal which I can pick up from my laptop, but after entering "launchmodem" into the address bar, I can't access the configuration screen for the router to configure my network ID and such, since it says:
Installation Incomplete
An incomplete modem installation detected.
Click NEXT to continue.
After I click next, it waits for a DSL Sync which never comes since this is not DSL and it will not install.
Is there a way for me to be able to access the router without having DSL?
Thx _________________ FyT

Try calling up ATT, they should be able to help you directly.
You say you're using PPPoE. I use this too, with ATT.
What I had to do, was set my ATT DSL modem (which can also function as a router) to "Bridged mode" - so the modem could "talk to" the linksys router....
And THEN, I set up the PPPoE settings in my linksys router.
You will likely need to do this too.
Did the DSL package come with a CD? Mine did, pop that in, and it should prompt you how to test/hookup the connections, and "logging you in" to the ATT modem interface (to set it to bridged mode).
Alternatively, you could try looking at the guides/howto/qa at DSLReports:
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/westell
http://www.dslreports.com/faq/12782 should get you logged into the modem (to set it to bridge mode so it can talk to your router).
