Ever since my Norton expired I have been using AVG and I'll tell ya, I have had nothing but trojan horse after trojan horse infect my pc.

How do I stop this?!?

I am getting so frustrated!

The newest one is Downloader.Small.6.T

Does anyone have any suggestioned solutions??

Maybe a better virus scanner than AVG... that is free... and safe to d/l

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it helps I will give some additional info...

I am running Windows XP Professional
My antivirus is AVG 6.0 Free version
I have run AdAware & Spybot.
I do have HijackThis but because I am not sure about the log part, I haven't used it much. A friend of mine helped with the first time I used it which was about 2 weeks or so ago.

The trojan horse is found in this file... C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\LPRHELP.EXE

If this is not the correct board, I would appreciate it if someone could direct me to where I need to go.
Thanks

Howdy,

I can't tell you much about AVG but AVPE has excellent AT capabilities. Try it out and see if it helps with your problems.

A little install help:

Install only as admin!! not user with admin rights.

If you need more help with AVPE I will gladly help. If you don't want to try it then I suggest you post a log in the HJT forum.

Hi mwah!

Welcome to Computer Cops! Thumbs Up

AVPE is short for AntiVir Personal Edition. It is freeware and one of the better AntiVirus programs you can get. AT is for AntiTrojan. Read the other posts in this forum to learn more.

You can download it right here at Computer Cops: CastleCops Link/downloads-cat-7.html (It's at the top of the page.)

You need to be the only admin/operator of your pc.
It does all Windows operating systems except the Windows 2000 Server.

Best regards

I tried to download it but when I want to open/extract it, the file is not known to my pc. Do you have another suggestions?

In the meantime, does anyone know how I can remove the trojan that has already infected my pc?

Go to the New Users forum and read the topics relating to your problem. The directions provided by Robin are excellent.

Hi mwah!

You can find more help at your other thread now.

CastleCops Link/p206207-Always_Infected_Need_Help_Plz.html#206207

Btw, your pc probably did not recognize the AVPE file because it was zipped? http://www.winzip.com/

Best regards Wink

Yes I seen that it was zipped. I am a bit familiar with WinZip. I used it to unzip it to a file of my choice. When I went to open the file it uses a file .tar ... my pc doesn't know what program to use to open it because of this extention.

Hi mwah!

This is a problem beyond your control. It will get fixed soon. A .tar file is for Linux/Unix. That's a big oops! I will inform the appropriate people. Wink

Try going to http://www.free-av.com/

That is the AVPE Homepage. Click Downloads on the left column.

Thanks, I went there and the download was easy. Did a scan and it picked out 19 worms and trojan horses. Nasty!
