Hello
Am using free antivir,v.6.24.01.02, have done a couple of on-demand system scans O.K., and seem to have got it to update O.K., but I don't see how to get it to scan e-mails the way that Norton AV used to before I uninstalled it. Should it be possible to scan emails with free antivir?
With thanks
PS why didn't my signature appear here? It's Windows XP Home,SP1

Howdy,

Sorry, AVPE does not officially scan email. People have reported results with different Email programs (Do not know which, and I never got an answer) that mails were being scanned.

You might try reading about Firetrusts Benign, to see if you could use it:

P.S. The newest AVPE version is available at www.free-av.com and will also be changed soon in the CCSP downloads.

Hi benaround3!

Under Preferences in your Profile you will find this:

Be sure it is set to "Yes."

AVPE does not officially scan email, however it does scan every file that enters your computer. It is only when you download a file (such as an email or whatever) that it is scanned by AVPE.

Hope this helps your understanding? Wink

Best regards

Thank you
That helps, but there's more questions.
How can I make sure that the emails are being scanned as I download them from the server?
What are the differences between how Antivir scans email. and how my previous system, Norton2002, did it?

Double-click on the AVGuard icon when you are going to download a file. Watch the Configuration diplay "Last File" to see the files being scanned. This is a realtime process.

Heylllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Hey! That's clever! Does that mean that every file that is mentioned in that window has been scanned? In that case antivir DOES scan email then?
So what about emails going out, does it scan them too?
