|
|
I just updated to 6.26 lastnite. Now, AntiVir Guard/XP Control Program is trying to access one of my ISP's DNS servers . I understand the localhost access, which it has also asked for access to, but why does it need access to the internet. BTW, If I give it permission to the DNS server , there is constant active traffic. If I don't , then AVGuard is not started. I have not tried to remove and reinstall AVPE , yet.
Config:
XPpro
AVPE 6.26.00.00
ZA 3.7
Cable connection via router.
Settings:
AVPE Guard loads at startup . AVPE to update and scan daily .

I decided to uninstall, and downloaded a new install file . Same issue however . ZA prompts for AVGNT.exe to access DNS server port :53 . ZA indicates continuous incoming traffic, no outgoing .
ZA log entry after reinstall :

Howdy,
AVPE new 6.26 is now using TCP/IP in preparation for the new XP SP2 Security console(or however they plan to name it). Don't worry about this, please read the following.
| Quote: | Dear AntiVir Personal Edition Users!
This week we'll release the new version 6.26. One of the major changes is the swich to TCP/IP as the communication protocol between the AVGuard Control Program (red umbrella) and the AVGuard service under NT, 2000 and XP.
Please note that this may cause most of the personal firewalls to issue a warning message regarding a connection request of AVGNT.EXE and an open port 18350 of AVGUARD.EXE. Please note that AntiVir does not connect to the Internet in this case but to the local computer at IP 127.0.0.1 (localhost) which should be allowed.
Please make sure your firewall in is learning mode and that you allow the connection (and all further connection) of this application.
Please also note that there is a known problem with the english version of 5.0.950.015 of ZoneAlarm (Pro and Free). For some reasons, the control program is unable to establish a reliable connection to the service. We are in contact with ZoneLabs in order to solve this issue as soon as possible. The (german) version 4.5.xxx of ZoneAlarm is working without problems.

Thank you for the help. I had previously read the announcement by Thomas Salomon , and other replies to posts regarding this issue, but my concern is there was no mention of AVGNT accessing "port 53" to an outside IP , a DNS Server in this case, only 18530 and for IP 127.0.0.1 (localhost) . I understand there have been changes, but just wanted clarification AVGNT is working properly.
