I had a problem with the NAV email scanning and was told that a file was corrupted and had to re-install the product. I did and everything seemed to go OK.
But...when I next started the computer some of the files (Misc folder contents, mostly text) were missing, then while I was looking for them the computer froze and I had to restart. And when I did I got the 'cannot find the OS' message, and I've been getting it ever since.
Before I rebuild everything I would like to find out what happened. I use XP and have a fairly new hard drive (4 mo) and an HP that HAS given me problems before, so I'm not sure in which direction to look.
Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried to use F8 to boot into safe mode? If you can get into safe mode try a system restore. If you can't do either, use the drive boot install disk from the manufacturer and run a test on it. Sounds like you may be losing the harddrive. I ran one for one week and it went just after I had installed everything and was ready to give the system back to a friend.
