Is there any way to prevent the Program Control prompt from popping up? I've tried unchecking all the appropriate boxes, and rebooting, to no avail.
Any help?

Hi -
I had a trial version installed previously. I uninstalled it, then reinstalled the full software (it's actually another trial version, but 1-year in length. my brother works for the ad agency behind symantec, and gets 'em for free).
The prompt that keeps appearing has the "Program Control" header, and there's a risk level indicator, and then it says something to the effect of "a remote system is trying to access your computer", listing the IP address.
It's crazy: I keep hitting "permit" or "block" with the checkbox checked, and they pop up one after another.

list the IP address and I will try to access it. That way you will not risk your computer. It may be something as simple as one of your programs trying to check on updates. Can you take a screenshot of the prompt. I use snagit or Gadwin PrintScreen 2.6 which can be read about here:

There is a free download near the bottom third of the window.

Here is a link to the Program Control popup.

I think it's related to Norton's Personal Firewall or Intrusion Dection. Those windows literally pop up one after another, from different IP addresses trying to access my computer or programs that are installed on my computer trying to access outside sources. I just need to know how to stop those suckers from popping up. If I have to sacrifice a little security, so be it.
Does this ring a bell? Have you experienced these prompts before?

I'd like some help with this, too. I am getting so many pop-up "high risk" alert boxes with the same message that at times logging onto the internet isn't even worth it.
Only way I could get it to stop was by disabling both my NIS Firewall and Intrusion Detection.
Found out something else, too: If you keep clicking to block, pretty soon when you try to block something, a NEW msg box pops up saying something about having more rules than NIS can support.
Now, I don't know if this is related, but the next day after this new box made an appearance, I tried to install the updates that had been downloaded, (I think it was Program Updates.....today was URL updates), and whatayaknow: Norton couldn't install them, Error Messages LU1806 and LU1812.
SOooooooo. I spoke with a tech over the phone, who told me to uninstall NIS2004, and re-install it via a link he provided. This I did. Everything is great. No pop-up alert boxes. But still cannot install some of the updates.
Don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I also have SpySweeper, and this, too, went wrong on the same day that NIS did. Had to uninstall it.
(Also have 5 traces of Alset HelpExpress on system and Norton cannot delete it. But that's another headache.............)!
Thanks
Paula

I did a search on Alset Help Express and the forums are full of posts trying to remove this program or whatever. I would suggest you transfer this to the Hijackthis forum but this is not your original post that doesn't work. You should always post yourself and refer to similar problems. You need to go to the hijackthis forum and post.
