|
|
Hi, I have both AVG and Symantec on the systray right now because they both open on startup. The suggestion has been made that only one AV should be running. I tried to find a way through the menus of AVG's Control center and the program itself to "uncheck" its startup operation, but had trouble finding it.
Is there a way to do so?
Thank you,
bogey

You didn't mention which version of AVG you are using.
In AVG 6.0, checking the "Disable Resident Shield" box doesn't seem to work.
You may have to uninstall/reinstall AVG 6.0, making sure during reinstallation that you do not enable resident shield. AVG will then be available for on-demand av scanning.

Hi bogey_lj!
You heard right. I use AVG as my backup AV (in case my other one ever stops working for some reason). You should never run two AV's at the same time as they can conflict with each other and use too much resources/cpu.
Choose which AV you are going to use as your primary first. If AVG is to become your backup scanner, be sure you remove it from your startup list. Check AVG itself and remove the check from the box that allows it to load at startup. Disable it from doing a bootscan as well. Reboot then check your startup list and the AVG program settings again to be sure that it is not loading on startup.
From here on you can use AVG on manual. You will need to make the update yourself and run scans. Be sure to close your other AV by right-clicking it on the taskbar and selecting "Exit and/or Close."
If you need more help, we will be here.
Best regards
