I'm using the above software to try and remove whatever it finds. Whenever I do a search it says that it has left around 250 on the hard drive (it makes no attmept to offer me the chance to remove them)...is this normal or do I need to get some more powerful AV software?

Hi,
If AVG detected a virus and managed to heal it, it will move the files to AVG Virus Vault. Launch the AVG Virus Vault to see what's in there. You can delete those from there.
Run another full system scan to make sure that there is no uncleaned items. If there is, take note of the path and the name of virus.
BTW, What is your operating system? _________________ It is common sense to take a method and try it; if it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something. --Franklin D. Roosevelt

Okay I've re-run the scan and it says there are 243 virues still on the Hard Drive...I've got a full list of the file paths and the vast majority are in the SpyBot folder. I've deleted Spybot from the C:/ does this mean that thos viruses will be gone when I restart my computer (I would un-install it from the Add or Remove Programs menu but my computer won't let me access it ).
The other non SpyBot files are;
...two in the C:/Recyclers area...
...one in one of my recieved files and...
...one in my temporary files...
Now I've deleted the one in the recieved file (something I downloaded) does that mean now I've delted the file that held the virus (it was a .zip file) that it's gone?
I'm using Win XP by the way...

Hi again,
Please run an online scan - http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp to find out that there's no more virus.
You wrote that AVG detected huge # of infection in Spybot folder. Are you referring to Spybot Search & Destroy? If yes, did you verify that those aren't the items in "Recovery" of Spybot S&D?
Also, please download HijackThis from /downloads-file-328.html that will diagnose your system for any bad items.
Open 'My Computer', then double-click to open C:\ (or the drive letter that your Windows is installed)
In the menu bar, click File-->New-->Folder.
That will create a folder named New Folder, which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis". Now you have C:\HJT\ or C:\HijackThis\ folder. Put your HijackThis.exe there
Now run HijackThis. Click Scan. Click Save log. Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the content of Hijackthis.log here as part of your reply.
