Have been running 3 separate lil great programs, was given Norton after my house burned down. Installed it on my XP system, disabling my other lil programs, Norton keep locking up and freezing.

Decided to delete it; after having NO other newly-installed programs, viruses, etc., I tried to delete it.

At that point in time, I have two incidences of Recycle Bin on the Desktop, can't delete one or them, rename, etc.etc., I just have two stuck there.

All of Norton is deleted thru Add-Remove, however, a few residual quarantine files remain, and I have done EVERYthing to delete these puppies, to NO avail. (gluing hair back in)

My previously-running 3 programs are running now with Norton pretty much deleted, and all 3 point to the quarantine files of Norton.

Sheeeeeeeeeeesh and thanks for a great helpful site.

PLS help me as I slowly go insane.

Norton tends to leave a lot of itself behind in case of a reinstall. Last time I removed it (NAV2002 in Win 98) I downloaded a program to finish the job from the Symantec site. Try http://search.symantec.com/custom/us/query.html for instructions on removing different variants of Norton. Good luck, and hope the glue holds!

Hi golfer123,

Welcome to CastleCops NAV Forums!

Here are some instructions so you can fix the twin recycle bins: http://www.tweakxp.com/tweak1372.aspx

I wish I had had that removal tool for NAV 2002 when I uninstalled it. I removed the remnants manually. Argh! Laughing

I just clicked the link to Norton from this thread about removing any remnants and I just get a generic search page and don't know what to search for in the "categories" or how to find this removal tool or assistant.
Can someone explain how to find it so i can remove what's left of the terrorist Norton. BTW, when I uninstalled Norton a year ago, my computer crashed constantly to the point where I had to pay $150.00 to their tech support to remove it and fix all problems it had left. Now there are still 2 entries of Norton in my Hijackthis log.

Here are two little freeware programs that can help you with the manual cleanup of NAV. Wink

RegCleaner from MajorGeeks

Crap Cleaner

Best regards

Here are further and updated instructions on how to uninstall all versions of Norton Antivirus.

Uninstalling all versions up to and including 2003

Note: Instructions are also provided for other Symantec applications besides NAV.

Removing versions from 2004 and up

After following these instructions if you have any problems or if you have any questions please post it as a "New Topic" in the appropriate forum. Either Norton Antivirus Forum or the General Symantec Forum.

Thank you
