On my friends computer, a dell 8400, Windows XP, SP2, he has entries in "My Documents" that are listed in Black Print and Blue Print. What or Why are some of these Blue? And should they be moved or treated differently. Thanks Newt Question

Hi wllm55,

Filenames shown in blue are compressed files, often produced when Windows Disk Cleanup is run. You will also find that the uninstall files for Windows Updates (found in the Windows folder) are blue for the same reason.

There is no need to treat them any differently to 'normal' files - if they are needed then Windows will deal with them automatically.

Incidentally, encrypted files will show in green.

Thanks Mister 2, I had an idea of something like that because of the file name, but could not quite make it out. Thanks again. Newt

I just noticed it also applies to folder names - C:\windows\system32\dllcache is compressed and thus shows blue.
