I've a similar problem in that the following updates will not install into NIS 2005:
Antispam Core Components - Antispam 2005.1.02 (517.8KB)
Norton Antivirus Program update - NAVNT 11.0.2 (583.5KB)
Symantec Security Software update - Common Client ccProxy Core 103.0.7 (343.1KB)
Symantec Security Software update - Symantec Common Client 103.0.6 (1233.5KB)
I been in touch with Symantec Support via e-mail on numerous occasions and spent countless hours un-installing and re-installing, editing the registry, installing the latest LiveUpdate etc etc as directed by Symantec and all to no avail. It's always the same four updates that won't install.
I've even un-installed SP2 and re-intalled that! Everthing else on my PC works fine.

Ref my post of 29 July: I spoke too soon. the uninstallable update is back. I just uncheck it.

Hi,
Heres a try out for this issue
Note:For 2006 products make sure that "symantec protection" is off.
Go to c:\docs&settings\allusers\applndata\symantec\Lu\ and open the downloads folder and clear it out. DONT DELETE THE DOWNLOADS FOLDER. Get back to the Lu folder
Now delete 1.settings.liveupdate, 2.settings.liveupdate, 3.settings.liveupdate and settings.liveupdate.
Try doing a LU.
Let me know if this works or not.
If ya still have the same problem, Uninstall LU, copy the product.inventory.lu to ur desktop, delete the entire Lu folder and re-install Lu v2.7 from ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/liveupdate/2.7/lusetup.exe
Copy the product.inventory file back to where it was before and try.

This workaround was successful on both PC's
In Safe mode: go to c:\program files\common files\symantec shared
1. Cut and paste the following files to a Newfolder on your desktop: cclogin.dll, ccwebwind.dll, ecmldr32.dll
2. Reboot the computer and run Live Update. All the Norton programs will update except Norton Anti-Virus.
3.Shut down and reboot to Safe Mode. Cut and paste the 3 files back into the c:/program files/common files/symantec shared folder.
4. Reboot the machine. Run Live Update again. You will be prompted by Norton to reboot a 3rd time for the update to take effect.
