Hi twl845, Just out of interest what AV are you using and have you encountered any conflicts between OA and any other security software. Thanks BL
Hi Blacklupine, I have been using NOD32 for about a year and a half. It's the best. There have been no conflicts with other apps, with the exception of BOClean which got corrupted trying to do an update on 2 occasions after I had installed OA. I uninstalled BOClean since all it did for the 6 months I used it was update.
I have Returnil, Sandboxie, Superantispyware, AVG AS, FDISR, and NOD32 running smooth as silk with OA.

Thanks for that twl845, I am have been using CPF but wanted to give OA a try. I was a little concerned about the resident shields as I have Avast Pro installed at the moment but think I will do what you did and use the free version first and take it from there. The reason I wanted a change is that I have never been 100% with CPF and the new version is somewhat daunting! Thanks BL

If you find CPF v3 daunting you'll just love OA. If you buy it be sure to get the maintenance agreement for free upgrades. I just got the new v2.1.0.85 as I booted up. A dialog box comes up telling you that the upgrade has been installed please restart your computer to set the drivers. Upgrades don't get easier than that. Very Happy

Just a tip. Rather than get the free version, get the 30 day trial. That way if you decide to buy the paid version you won't have to uninstall the free version and re- install the paid version. You'll just have to enter your key. You can always go back to the free version.

Thanks for that twl845 and yes I think I will go along those lines. Maybe daunting was the wrong word to use but I did find CPF somewhat time consuming at first unless you want to use it 'out of the box' a bit heavy going for a home use firewall for me. So the new version of CPF and all the problems people have had with it put me off! Thanks again. BL

After i had unplugged and then plugged in my external DVD drive, none of my applications would start up. I jsut got the message, "XXXXXX is not a valid WIN 32 application". Okay, so i wnet into safe mode and did all the scans i could think of, nothing. tried to play around with the msconfig, nothing. Then i remembered i made a little mistake when one of Comodo's application warnings came up. Anyhow, i will un-install it tonight and see what happens, i dont't see it being anything else. Ever since i installed this firewall, i have jsut been annoyed with it - jsut as i was with Kaspersky. If these companies serioulsy want to get into the home and home-office market, then they really should make things a little easier. they ahve way to many user-rights controls and it just gets annoying when you have all these pop-ups. I will be going back to Windows firewall, which works just fine for me. Hopefully takeing COMOD off will resolve the problem. If not, i don't know what to do next

Hi Optimizer and welcome to CastleCops. It's your choice if you decide to revert back to the Windows Firewall but remember that it is a basic firewall that only gives incoming protection.

I have used Comodo and yes it can be a little daunting at first but you can use Comodo and most other firewalls 'out of the box' so to speak.

Which version of Comodo did you install? If it was v3 then I would suggest you try the earlier version 2 and also remember that you can check the box on the pop ups to remember your decision on so reduce the number of pop ups that you get.

Have a look at the following which covers FAQ's with regards to the installation/how to use procedures.

Thanks for your help. I downloaded it from CNet, so i would imagine it was the latest version. Anyhow, i went into safe mode last night and uninstalled it and now my system is running fine. Yeah, windows firewall is basic, but it does the job. I have AVG also, combined with some antispyware programs. I always give my pc a good sweep each week and have not come across anything major. I have had the same PC for 5 years now and it runs jsut as good as the day it came out of the box. I don't think i will go back to COMODO again though.

Optimizer - I hope I'm not going off topic an apologize if I am, but you would do good to check out Online Armor FW as it is very user friendly and well configured.

Hello QuanDong4 and welcome to CastleCops, if you think you have a malware problem have a read through the following:

http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal_and_Prevention:_Overview

I have only had experience with Comodo's version 2 but you may find the answers you need with regards installing/setting up Comodo v3 firewall here:

If you have no skill with computers, run don't walk away from comodo firewall 3!

Even if you do have some skill, I advise you to think carefully, do you have the patience and energy to spend weeks learning?

Sure, all the prompts look impressive, but it will come to naught, if you just click allow for everything without thinking...
