OK I'm in agreement. Lets get together a list of galleries we might be able to use.

Gallery for one, but I'd like to see a little community evolve around it, so a nice blog and forum would go nicely too.

So, you aren't planning to integrate it into the current portal?

i guess we should just post our list of preferences and see what comes out of it.

how about the pictures of your garden whether it is for flowers or vegetables it doesn't matter.

and you favorite critter,

Lashes' picture is in the old gallery,
she's seven now and i have inherited another one, Della, she thought she was always my dog anyway.

and then there's family pictures,

not so sure if that's a great idea though.

cars,
boats,,

Oh how about the two Steelhead that i caught this season on the rogue river below Grants Pass?
Man they are like torpedoes on the end of the line,
i guess that why they call them "silver bullets".

or people could post their modifications to their cases and show off the inside of their systems to see the pretty cable layouts and such.

the list can go on forever..............................

I think that Paul was referring more to applications themselves, like Gallery, CPG, etc.

I hadn't considered CPG originally as the port to Nuke has apparently been abandoned. If a Nuke port isn't required then it might be back in the mix.

I could work on the gallery 2 port for us, but the question is, do we want to build a whole photo community around it, or integrate it into this host?

I think that it would see more use if it were integrated, especially if the memberlist were shared. I have always felt that the Wiki would have caught on more quickly if it were more tightly integrated.

Pie in the sky right now, I know, but imagine portal, forums, Wiki, photo gallery with common memberlist and unified theme. Wow!

do you still have that put away somewhere where you can access it?

i have some pictures in there i liked so i archived them there.

one was a picture of the Elk in the BITTERROOT FIRE in OREGON;
they are standing in the middle of the BITTERROOT River to keep from getting burned in the fire.

the photo was taken by a bureau of land management employee during a survey of the fire.

Picture taken on Aug. 6, 2000 by John McColgan of the Bureau of Land Management, Alaskan Fire Service.

i found it online but it is not as good as the one which was posted here.

wHOOPS,,

I should have said Bitterroot Fire in Sula,Montana.

The image was captured in the late afternoon of Sunday, August 6, from a bridge over the East Fork of the Bitterroot River just north of Sula, Montana. The elk sought refuge in the river bottom during what may have been the most extreme day of fire behavior on the Bitterroot in more than 70 years.

I know that pragmatists are a real pain in the rear, but I have been asking myself some questions on this:

  1. Does it contribute to our core mission? If so, how?
  2. What will be the cost in terms of disk space, bandwidth, and, ultimately, $$
  3. Will the benefit be worth the manpower expenditure in terms of monitoring, updating, etc.

There are a number of free image storage sites available on the net at large so I see little reason to provide a place for members to store their personal photos. I can see a real benefit for a place where members can upload photos that can then be linked in posts.

Any thoughts?

i only brought it up because there used to be a very nice section of photo albums,

and it was site specific because it was about the individual members and their interests.
i know about all the other photo storage sites
and i have a couple of accounts in them.
