I'm having the same issues as you guys. Quarantine will not open with the updated ecmsvr32.dll file. I found by the overwriting the current ecmsvr32.dll file with the older versions (before this year), quarantine indeed loads again. The problem is then when you run live update, since its an older version of the file, live update updates the file and you are back to square one. First the problems with the archived updates, now this. Frustrating.

Thanks, stubbz. I am glad to see yet more victims have discovered this forum and thanks for making the case against the latest version of ecmsvr32.dll. Let’s hope Symantec’s holdup doesn’t last much longer. We’ve all paid good money expecting a fault free service.

I was out of town and away from my PC for about a week. I tried it just now and same files are causing it to crash, according to the report:
AppName: qconsole.exe -- AppVer: 10.0.10.13
ModName: ecmsvr32.dll -- ModVer: 81.2.0.25 Offset: 00008b3c
BTW, I heard from a friend who uses NAV 2004 that he's been getting the same results.
Seems to me that once this is fixed--if it EVER is fixed--Symantec should take the initiative to CREDIT all of those impacted by this with an extra month or two on their subscriptions. I hate to sound like a crabby old consumerist, but this has gone on way too long.

Sorry about the duplicate post above, but the Validation screen kept signaling that I was typing in the incorrect code... Took ten tries--and ten different codes-- before I finally got it to give me an "accepted" message, and then my post displayed twice! (Guess I should just register.)

Same mesage duplication. No indication that it had "taken" - Actually nearly put it in again and surprised to see it was there.

Well, here it is several weeks later and the problem still hasn't been fixed.
My subscription expires in about two weeks, but there isn't any way I'll renew it now. I also don't want to upgrade to the 2009 version--as suggested on the other site--only to find out that the same thing is happening, and there's the typical "wall of silence" on the part of Symantec. Guess I'll be shopping around for new virus protection software, or opt for one of the "free" services.

Hey Folks,
I have NAV 2004 and my subscription expires in about 60 days and I too am getting the DLL error message from the Quarantine Console. Not sure if I'll renew my subscription if this is the service i can expect in the future.

I just spotted this post string --
http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=11785
I think that the first question that struck me was, if they no longer intend to support the product--if it is woefully outdated--then WHY are they taking customers' money to renew their supbscriptions to it?
I just renewed my subscription to the 2004 version a few weeks ago. There was NO disclaimer on the site saying the product was out of date, or did NOT do an adequate job of protecting my computer, etc. They just took my money and "thanked" me for the renewal.
Now, I'm supposed to (somehow) contact their "customer service department," and ask to upgrade to NIS 2009?
Well, I just looked over the "system requirements" for the 2009 version, and in order to install and run it, I'll have to make some upgrades to my PC--double the RAM, a slightly higher processor, etc.
Since I plan to dump my PC next year for an up to date model, I can't see making this investment.
Since they don't plan to replace the defective DLL file, as a work-around, I've set Norton to bypass Quarantine and automatically delete whatever it finds.

Hi all,
I'm experiencing the same qconsole.exe failure with NAV 2004. I had my OS's critical error reporting temporarily disabled, so the relevant errors weren't being logged for event viewer - the Quarantine Console simply refused to open.
Last night, I posted a gripe response in a thread concerning the matter on the Norton forum at:
http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&thread.id=11785&view=by_date_ascending&page=2
The fact that they took my money for a new subscription last month is what disturbs me the most.
I'm glad I found this discussion. There have to be plenty of oblivious NAV users who will be unpleasantly surprised when they next require access to quarantine management. Has anyone contacted Symantec and attempted to follow-up on the internal incident case reported earlier in this thread?
Thanks

I notice that Symantec have updated ecmsvr32.dll to version 81.3.0.13 with the latest general antivirus update (12th November) but it still doesn't open the Quarantine console on NAV 2004 and we get the same error message. It is very disappointing particularly when Symantec have told us at least twice that they will rectify it - once on this thread and on one of the other Norton threads. The first file version to cause this trouble was v.81.2.0.25 which appeared with the 20th August updates. Previous versions of ecmsvr32.dll worked fine until then.

I got one of Symantec's lower level telephone support representatives to issue me a priority number for this matter today. After a 2 hour wait, I got through to the next level (btw, both levels were at outsourced call centers in India). I explained that the current LiveUpdate sessions consistently replace ecmsvr32.dll with version 81.3.0.13, which breaks the quarantine console functionality. I further explained that when I replace v81.3.0.13 with v1.2.0.13 (or older), the Quarantine Console is again accessible.
Naturally, he doubted me and was insistent that I uninstall and reinstall NAV 2004. So I played the game and after all of the initial updates, the v81.3.0.13 ecmsvr32.dll file was back... and thus so were the qconsole.exe crashes.
The Symantec tech representative decided he wanted to hang up and call me back in 10 minutes. We disconnected, but instead of him calling back in 10 minutes, a different representative called me back in about 20 minutes. I clarified to him that the problem was not resolved. He responded by assuring me that Symantec would put up a patch within the next 3 days that would fix the issue. We'll see, I guess.
I still have the priority number, so I suppose I can call back if the issue persists into next week ...that is, if I have the time to wait on hold for another 2 hours or so.
