My 2 Cents:
I could not access Symantec either so I downloaded the hostsfilereader.exe and deleted all entries except the default 127.0.0.1 localhost
I was then able to access Symantec and download the latest virus defs.
What a fabulous forum! Thanks to all who contributed to this post.
I just wanted to say thanks...

Has anyone tried the patches put out to assist with these problems? I found them this AM but have not loaded them as I do not have the problem (mine is an autodetect dilemma).
You can download them through this link:
http://www.computergripes.com/NortonAntiVirus2003.html#nmain.exe
Post here if they are helpful or hurtful
