Ya that is what I figured.
Check Your PM Messages
I want you to see if you can get to this website and save this driver to your Doc's or anywhere you can find it later.
Linksys - http://www.linksys.com/download/driver.asp?dlid=134
Driver Upgrade Instructions:
1) Unzip the files to a directory (e.g. C:\Linksys).
2) Open Control Panel by clicking Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
3) Click on System.
4) Click on the Hardware Tab (Device Manager Tab in Windows 98SE and Windows Millenium)
5) Click on Network Adapters and double click on Wireless-G Notebook Adapter
6) Click on the Drivers tab
7) Click on Update Driver
Select "Choose the device from a list of compatible hardware.
9) Select "Specify a Location"
10) Point the directory to where you've unzipped the drivers (e.g. C:\Linksys)
11) Select Wireless-G Notebook Adapter
12) Click OK
13) Check the Drivers tab under the device information and verify that the driver version has now changed to 3.20.21.0
Let me know if your connection comes back.
Then you will need to go to the HiJack This log and download it and let them finish cleaning you up. I am sure you have a lot of HiJackers jamming you up.
Here is a page on troubleshooting wireless & SP2 issues.

I was just re-reading the post to get a better feel of things.
Correct me if I am wrong, did you try to connect to the route while hardwired directly to the cable modem, if so that is why you can not open your router for this link to work you will need to be connected to the router.
http://192.168.1.1/
Look on the back of the router, there should be some RJ45 connections on it. Hook the Cable Modem to the WAN then plug the CAT5 cable from the computer into the #1 slot and see if you can connect to the net or router settings. http://192.168.1.1/
I downloaded this driver with no problem, it is not the same as you got.
http://www.linksys.com/download/driver.asp?dlid=134
It is a large file 18.9meg in zip form
Here is a winsock fix, if the winsock is corrupted in the registry this will fix it.

Hay River Rat this is how I wired it.....From my cable modem to my router then from port 1 on the router to my laptop's CAT 5 port....the green LED comes on but when I go to get online the same thing happens as if I were trying to connect wirelessly....
I checked to see if I was receiving any packets and I was, but IE will not come up.....I think its either my router has been hacked or as you said I need the update......plz send me the update if you can...my email is fox2222000@yahoo.com....thanks again

I will try to send the wireless card upgrade to you, but if that is a free yahoo account then it will not go through, it is only a 10mb account and the file is 18.9mb in zip form. This update is for the wireless card not the router.
There is no driver needed for the router.
If you can connect to the cable modem and get online then the problem is with the router.
Do this with the cable modem hooked to the router WAN and the computer hooked to the router #1 port, and all of them turned on.
In the front of the router on the front side of the lights there is a little hole, that is the reset button, you will need a sharp object, like a straightened paperclip, stick it in the hole, there is a little button in there that I want you to push it in and hold it. The bottom light will turn red, keep holding it in till the green lights come back on. This will reset all the settings to factory.
Now go to Control Panel>Double Click Network connections>Right click on Local Area Connection>Click on Properties>make sure you have (Internet Protocol TCP/IP) installed and a checkmark in the box>Click on TCP/IP>Click Properties>Make sure you have Obtain IP & DNS Auto. checked>OK>Apply>OK
Close Network Connections and Shut Down>Unplug Power from Cable Modem & Router>wait 1 minute>Plug Power into Modem>Wait for lights to turn solid (not blinking)>Plug Power into Router>Wait for it to power up>Start Computer>Open your Browser>Tell Me if it works.
