Okay, now I know this forum will yield awesome information even for the most frivolous of inquiries. I love it! Thanks!

I tried that out and found quite a few items I don't need in the Startup, however, one thing I unchecked (and don't ever use) was Win Messanger, which I've shut down (not signed in).

When I restarted, Win Mssgr came back.

Is there any way I can keep it out of my Startup items ?

I had the exact same problem and someone told me about "shoot the messenger." You can download it at
http://grc.com/stm/shootthemessenger.htm

That stopped my problem, along with Winpatrol where I removed it.

That's what I originally used to Remove Messenger (shoot the mssngr), and it is disabled (not signed in) but it's still in my Startup.

I'll give that other one a try !

If Starter could have the Consult feature that Startup Inspector has or if Startup Inspector added a Running Processes tab that utilized the Consult info they would be great.

Would I be correct in saying that the only difference between this and the SU program section of WinPatrol is that it shows descriptions ?

WinPatrol is wondeful so just trying to work out if I really need this program.

Great looking program but hasn't been updated since January 2007.

Does anyone know if the software is still being looked after and/or is still viable?

FWIW, I did download, install and execute the program. It only had 18 of my 38 startup processes in its database.

Don't shoot me - I know 38 is a huge number. I go on and off a network and most of the unknowns are related to the damn tablet feature of this laptop.
