Bumping it up? Arrow Laughing

Sorry for not getting back to you here sooner. I was promoted, which also means more work. Wink

Your welcome. I prefer to keep it simple and straightforwards when it comes to PC security. Too many security applications can be worse than none at all.

Mostly, I use good common sense surfing habits and excellent yet simple security applications as well as some tweaks to my system. I quit Norton three years ago because it became more maintenance (a maintenance nightmare) and less effective over time. I found AV's that do as good a job or better with very little maintainance, catchup and fiddling to do with them.

It's good to check what other people think about products but I rely on my own experience and what works best on my equipment. What works for me may or may not be good for you?

My advice would be "play the field" of quality security products until you find something you are comfortable with and gets the job done the way you want it. That's what I do. Wink

All the best to you.

Thanks Larry,

You didn't need to answer from a month ago. My last post was sort of
a rhetorical post, but I appreciate it anyway.

I've read so much on this subject in the last few months, including
everyone having scores of complaints about every product, that I think
I'm just going to get a calculator, slide rule, typewriter, abacus,
a couple of #2 pencils and set up a .50 cal. MG auto fire perimeter post
for security -- the hell with it!! Confused

LOL I understand. Laughing

EDIT: Okay, I have unlocked it again. And, so you don't have to keep bumping it up, I stickied it. Very Happy

Thank you for your continued participation at CastleCops. Thumbs Up

CastleCops Malware Removal and Prevention procedure is ideal for cleaning and maintaining the integrity of your PC. (This one is good, very good. Give it a look.)

[This should be added here too -- this is an addendum to my post from
Mon Dec 13, 2004 1:31 AM in this thread -- except it applies to NIS2006]...

----------------------------------------------------

Just adding something in case someone else has problems with this...
(No -reeeeeaaaallllly? - a problem with a Symantec product - naaaahh -
that's not possible).

Nawww-tin decided a couple of days ago they wanted to 'improve'
their Live Update module, so when I ran LU, I received the upgrade
message, followed the steps, downloaded it, ran into the 'usual' problems,
researched and fixed them.

Then I went to run the 'new and improved' LU and received a
"LU1834: LiveUpdate could not find an update file on the server.
Please run LiveUpdate again
" error. (Oh geez - an error running a
Symantec product -- what a shock)...

So I researched that one:

Document ID:1999121613163206
How to Run LiveUpdate

and:

Document ID:2004030908410213
How to Replace Damaged LiveUpdate Files

Got to Section 4, Steps 10 and 11 (for W/XP) and the LU Folder just
would not Delete. Tried removing the Read Only Attribute (and a dozen
other things, all to no avail).

To make a LSS (Long Story Short), the bottom line is if you try to obtain
an update while it is still replicating to the LiveUpdate servers, it will fail.

The 'fix' for this is to close LiveUpdate, wait about 30 minutes and
run LiveUpdate again.

That will do it. I waited and an hour later, I ran it again with no problems
(until, of course, the next 'problem' occurs)!

Hi Mike,

Norton is just too much work for me. I thought these were supposed to be labor-saving applications? roll eyes

If you don't see me around much, I am busy writing a book in computer security. Wink
