Since PhishGuard works in the system tray as a startup item you would think that it would be relatively easy to adapt to different browsers. _________________

Interestingly enough I have found that I can report a site to PhishGuard from Firefox using the same mechanism that is used with IE. I had not thought to test the alerting feature. I guess that will be next. _________________

FYI: Netcraft updated their Anti-Phishing IE Toolbar.
New to the toolbar is Risk Rating, a graphical indicator that appears for all new sites. The rating, said Netcraft, is generated by comparing the new site against characteristics of known phishing sites

I haven't had many bad sites to test that with but it gives good sites a consistently low ranking and the one real bad one had a much higher rating. _________________

I have installed this but so far no luck at getting it to work in FF. Maybe I am not holding my mouth right. _________________

I installed it at work with no problem while connected to our network. I then tried at home where I have a dial-up and failed.
I then logged on, rerun setup and allowed FF to have access to the net in order to complete the installation properly.

Hi Oldfrog,
I just wanted to see if I could help you get up and running. I actually work at FraudEliminator and came across this post today. What happens when you install? About 99% of problems that are reported to us are caused by a firewall blocking access to the FraudEliminator Helper application. Feel free to e-mail me and I'm also happy to take phone calls (408-588-1779) to help:)

Hi, Alan, thanks for dropping by here. We are always pleased to have company reps come in and either help or explain.
Here is the scenerio up until tonight: I opened IE with FE installed and was told that there was an update available so chose to install it. The installer worked just fine, I elected to install for FF as well, and the installation proceeded and both browsers closed as expected. When I reopened IE the firewall alerted me to the new version of FE and I gave it permanent permission. IE had the toolbar in place and functional from the start. When I reopened FF there was nothing. No toolbar, no toolbar listed under View|Toolbars, nothing listed under extensions. It just flat isn't there anywhere.
Now a couple of things that you should know at this point. First, I haven't even tried troubleshooting it yet as all of my "questionable site" research is done using IE with FraudEliminator, Netcraft, and Trustwatch all enabled and active. That is not a slam at all, just that each one offers something that the others don't and I rely on indications from all three as I explore. So, since it is working where I really need it I haven't worried much about the other.
The second factor is that I have had something acting up with Firefox ever since I upgraded to 1.0.3. Since I have uninstalled and reinstalled it and the symptoms persist it would appear that I have an incompatibility somewhere that I have not found yet. Since that problem predates the FE install I am more inclined to blame the problem on the other inconsistencies than on FE itself.
BTW, I tried to send you an email through the link earlier and the board came back and said that you did not want to be emailed. You might want to check your email settings in your account.
Thanks very much for your concern and as I said at the outset you are always welcome here whether to browse, help, or just clear something up. It is very nice to see someone porting their toolbar to the alternative browsers even if I cannot use it yet. Thanks very much. _________________

Netcraft released their anti-phishing toolbar for Firefox today
| Quote: | We are pleased to announce the release of the Netcraft Toolbar for Firefox. You can download it from:
http://toolbar.netcraft.com/install/
Note that you will be presented with a warning on the first attempt to download the software. You may have to click the "Edit Options..."
button that appears at the top of the page and add the site "toolbar.netcraft.com" to the list of allowed sites before you can install the toolbar. |
their site seems to be offline at the moment... hopefully from high demand
if it's still unavailable after several hours, I'll post a link to a another download site _________________

I got in this morning and downloaded/installed without difficulty. It looks very nice on there and seems, so far, to be working just like the IE counterpart.
Thanks, Netcraft! _________________

I picked it up this past weekend, and it's doing fine on my machines, as well. Long overdue, but much appreciated!

I installed it myself but must admit I wouldn't know what a deception looks like if it appeared....

There are three toolbars that I really like and wish that I could roll into one.
Okay, the Netcraft bar will throw up a large warning and prevent access to a site if it has previously been reported and confirmed to be malicious. Beyond that it provides some additional info. First you will see a "risk rating" bar which is based on some rules-based processing. All green is good, all red is bad. Next you will see the month and year that the domain was registered. The older the better. Then there is a site report which provides the normal Whois info, etc. There is a flag showing the country in which the site is hosted and a link to the hosting company that the domain is hosted on.
While that is all good and useful information the downside is that the folks that really need the info won't be likely to understand what it means nor how to use it. _________________
