I can see generally people understand this as I look into the system. It just seems there is a small percentage of folks who aren't sure. |
I think you're overlooking the percentage that don't want anything. I just tried to enter to win nothing (no boxes selected) and I couldn't.
I'm plenty happy to advertise, but if I want to win nothing, damn it, I want it!
P.S. Aren't you guys really sorry you ever met me?

So if I checked all the categories and when you look after tiy had enter it show any categories because you already enter them.
So now I see a new one today for...
Fortinet FortiClient 25 $27.98 $699.5
So I can put a checkmark by it and type "Yes" again and hit the "enter contest" again.
I see all the other info is already filled out from the first time I enter so you know what categories I picked etc.

Right if you don't want to enter, don't.
hewee, yes it saves your info because that is what you entered previously. And yes, you can enter into the fortinet category. Remember, they are all categories, you can enter any of them anytime during the promotional period.
I think we can all understand this now. _________________ Paul Laudanski - http://www.laudanski.com

I think the uncertainty is whether entering once in all categories of interest would result in a chance to win only one of any of the selections or a chance to win in each of the selections. I thought it was the former but ol' baldy has me confused now.

Ol' baldy?
From what I understand, each of these is a separate drawing. If you enter all of them, there is a 1 in x chance of winning any one of them (x being the number of entries for a particular prize divided by the number of copies offered). Say 30 people enter to win Vista Ultimate. Since there are 15 copies offered, your chance of winning that would be 1 in 2. You could also win a copy of Uniblue Registyry Booster (Paul, please check that spelling). If the same 30 people entered *that* contest, you would win again, since there are 30 copies offered.
What you can't do is win 2 copies of Vista.
Does that clear it up for you?
Oh, one other thing. You can't win. You're staff and aren't eligible. Kinda ironic, since we are celebrating the efforts of our volunteers in helping the online community, but I didn't make the rules.

A somewhat valid point. Considering the enormous contributions by the staff to the efforts to make computing generally safer as well as to their problem solving efforts on behalf of individual guests and members, Paul would be entirely justified to have a contest open only to members of the staff. I first got turned on to CC by a friend (who happens to be part of the volunteer army of staff here). Initially, I was skeptical about the praise he heaped on CC. However, after being a member for a short time (and after lurking for even longer), I continue to be amazed by the efforts of all the staffers. It is an incredible job they do and it is indeed ironic that they are ineligible for the contest.
I suspect they are ineligible for the same reason employees, staff, etc. of any sponsor of or contributor to this type of contest are almost always excluded. Suppose a staff member or members won one or more of the more enviable prizes? Some one would almost certainly complain the contest was rigged, maybe hire a sleazy attorney to file a suit, maybe even a class action suit, then Paul would have enormous legal expenses, things would drag out for months, maybe years, maybe CC and Paul would go into bankruptcy, maybe . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Okay, maybe an exaggeration, but the basic point is valid. At best, having the staff eligible would create headaches to the point of making the contest not worth it. So, for now at least, the staff will have to content themselves with the not insignificant knowledge that they are doing great work and making huge contributions and that they have the gratitude, respect, and admiration of all those they help.
All of this is a long winded way of adding my voice to the congratulations to Paul and all the staff, along with my appreciation for all your efforts. A huge round of cyber applause to you all.
BTW, on the subject of long-winded, I can't believe Tim actually counted the words in an earlier post by Paul. Of course, I also can't believe that I counted them to see if he actually had. LOL
EDIT: While I was being longwinded, Paul gave the concise answer. _________________ How to be wise in two easy steps: 1) Think of something really stupid to say. 2) Don't say it.

You know, I understood the contest rules better than before I read these pages. Is it everyones goal in life to make my head spin?

I apologize if this has been more confusing than it should be for folks. I'm not sure if I can explain it any better than already has been.
In a nutshell, a single eligible entrant can only have 1 entry per category. So you cannot register under another user name to increase your chances of winning. This will disqualify you.
But during the promo period, under your single entrant registration (which will be displayed at the bottom - and you cannot change it), you may enter in any of the categories only one time. As you select and submit the categories to enter, they will disappear on subsequent page loads. If you select all categories and submit, then you will notice no further categories are displayed for your entrant profile.
To be honest, I thought the rules of entry were quite clear as well. And when I look in the records, it appears most would agree. _________________ Paul Laudanski - http://www.laudanski.com

OK, I have some questions about this contest. Since I am not staff, I am eligible for ALL PRIZES ~~~ BUT, I do not even KNOW what any of them are!
While I can balance the checkbook, change a diaper, pull burrs out of the cat, answer the phone, baste the chicken and iron some shirts SIMULTANEOUSLY, I am simply unable to even understand "real time." What do we have "real" time and "fake" time?
That statement IS contest related because I would like to enter all contests and then divy out the prizes to all those who are ALMOST 18 years of age, all dogs who live in staff homes and all those who are staff. Would THIS be legal? Since I don't know what the prizes actually are, I am simply not interested in them. However, I am interested in rewarding the wonderful staff I have met!
If that isn't legal, can I enter for a CC Premium Membership and just DONATE the prize back to CC?
I have a GREAT idea for a staff contest! All entrants will be eligible for 3 dozen of my famous chocolate chip cookies! How does that fly?
Tim, are you the person who gives out lil atom wigglies? I would like one in orange - please give me one or I will beat up your Sabres - I don't do voodoo hexes, but I can spit fairly well! If you don't want your Sabres hocked, then give me an orange atom squigglie.

Hi! Question on your ID. Are you Mr. Sugg, of Mrs. Ugg?
Oh! And where did all my stars come from above my avatar? Did someone hit me over the head with a baseball bat? _________________ Limitations live only in our minds.
