|
|
Hi everyone,
A question i would like some advice on please,i run AVPE and am happy with it,i would like to try the latest free AVAST av program as i have dowloaded it- but not set it up yet- until i get some helpful advice.
I want to use another av mainly as a standby only to compare detections rates between the 2,and see how the program runs ect ect.
I believe from what i have read and seen on sites that you cannot run 2 avs at the same time as there would be conflicts between them am i correct?.
Therefore my question is this - is there a way around this like e.g de-activate the guard on AVPE(still have avpe as the main program intact and installed) and then install AVAST and then run it as either a stand alone av scanner(without the guard enabled) or install the complete avast program with AVAST guard enabled,or should i uninstall avpe and just install avast and try it?,i would prefer to keep avpe, and maybe gets a few opinions on the latest AVAST AV,the tests that i have seen VBS ect and others sites seem close between the 2.
Regards
Dragon

Howdy,
There is really nothing against having 2 AVs running. Both can not be running real time - one of them has to be shut down. Turn off the active guard in AVPE and try out avast. Let us know how it goes. _________________ "Anyone who considers protocol unimportant has never dealt with a cat."

Thanks all for your advice appreciated!,just to let you know i disabled avpe guard(from advice given) and installed avast just to try it out and immediately recieved a warning from AVAST saying that another av (avpe) was running and it was not advised to have 2 av running at the same time,i carried on and installed avast and ran it but did not like the program at all so un-installed it and re-enabled AVPE GUARD, i am sticking with AVPE,i like it it is simple easy and works for me.
regards

dragon,
I agree. AVPE seems very simple and straightforward. _________________ Wayward

This reply might not be pertinent to the question anymore since Dragon Breath has decided to sick with AntiVir. But it is possible to install AntiVir with another AV and get both to function smoothly.
To do that, you need to uninstall AntiVir and then reinstall it. While reinstalling it, there will be a checkbox which determines if AntiVir's Realtime protection system (AntiVir Guard) will be installed or not. Just remove the check from the checkbox and install. This makes sure that AntiVir will be installed without AV Guard being enabled. So, no conflicts with other AV's.
Same thin can be done in case of other AV's also. For example, I installed AVG as a backup scanner on my system. I simply chose not to install its real time scan option. So having 2 AV's can work if you install the other one without its realtime protection system. Infact, almost all AV's give you this option.

Hi Satishicsbs,
yes i suppose that is best option to un-install avpe then re-intstall it but without realtime guard enabled,i was just disabling the avpe guard and having avast running but with the avast guard active, but the avpe guard was re-enabling when i next booted up,learning all the time, thanks for a useful tip!.
I would always like to have a Resident Guard enabled whichever av i am using though, but it is useful to know that you can use 2 avs as long as their resident guards are disabled.
regards
