Hi guys, I got very lucky. I received a legitimate
looking WAMU e-mail the other day, and knew it was phony, but I
did copy the link and paste it another browser out of curiosity thinking
It was safe as long as I didn't fill in any actual info, the next day I get
a call from WAMU loss prevention saying that someone in Bucharest
Romainia tried to empty my checking account out at an ATM!
fortunately they failed because they didn't have my pin, but I had no idea
phishing had become so advanced that just clicking a link could compromise
my info can someone explain how they do it?, and better yet how do I block them in the future? . WAMU has suspended my online banking for 30 days and issued me another card. I learned my lesson for sure. thanks in advance TC

What gets me is that I get mostly WAMU and eBay phishes, few others. I can understand why eBay customers would be a target, but what's up with WAMU customers that they attract all this phisher attention and not say American Express or First Fidelity or ..... whatever?

Hi, Billy
This is certainly very different that anything that we have seen before if it did, in fact, pick up your account info just from clicking a link. When you do your online banking do you have the computer "remember" your login details? If so, I strongly suggest that you not do that.
When you copied the address and pasted it in the address bar did you highlight the text in the link and then copy or did you do a right click on the link and copy from that? The information is actually important to this.
Also, do you by any chance still have that email? If so, would you mind sending it to fraud@deckertechnology.net preferably as an attachment? That would give us the opportunity to examine what it actually did in more detail.
Glad to hear that the attempt was unsuccessful. _________________
