Hi,

I'm new to this site. I got SBC Yahoo DSL a few weeks ago. I have the DSL 2Wire Wirless Router connected to a PC (Windows XP) and I have a 2Wire Wireless Card to my laptop (Windows XP). Connection works just fine.

But when the phone rings and I pick it up, it disconnects. The green light turns to orange. A few seconds after I hang up, the lights eventually turn to green meaning I'm connected. Sometimes I have to turn it off and back on to get it to connect again.

Every phone jack (4) has a filter. The filters were provided by SBC. I was getting frustrated so I ran brand new phone lines with new jacks. I punched it down directly to the main phone board. Hehehe My phone actually sounds MUCH better now. No static. But the DSL still disconnects when the phone rings but it reconnects much faster now.

What do I need to do to avoid getting kicked off? It's really annoying especially because they are marketing calls. Smile Do I need to purchase different line filters? Is it the Router?

Thanks

Hi there,

I know one thing for certain, it is neither your router or your computer. Perhaps the filters are not working correctly or your have a modem that loses synch when you get phone calls.

I would suggest calling SBC and telling them the problem you are having. Perhaps if they cannot find anything else wrong, they will send you some new filters to try.

Thank you. I'll try a different modem and different filters tomorrow.

I'll post again afterwards

Usually this can is traced to a bad connection somewhere. If the connection from the modem to the central office isn't clean then the off-hook voltage or the ring voltage will knockdown the connection because the line is already "dirty". Call your phone service people and have them check the lines.

Thanks Zippy. Haven't gone around to calling them yet. I just unplugged the answering machines so now I don't get disconnected. Smile No more marketing calls... i just turned off all the ringers until I get around to it.

Smile

Hi Julie,
Get yourself on the National no-call list!

https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

It takes a few months for it to go into effect, I think, but is well worth it. I went from around 5/day to 2/month. Very Happy

Actually, I have had this problem on my DSL line before and need to have my line checked again now. My started with just the ring voltage but progressed to the offhook voltage. Right now, I have some problems with a dropped line when the phone rings after a rain. I'm guessing that there is a connection that is getting wet somewhere. I need to call my phone provider too. It's driving my son crazy since it kicks him off his game. Laughing Laughing

I don't have call waiting. People know to use call my cell phone if it's busy Smile Don't want to pay extra. Especially since I don't use my phone much.

I read on another post that it has to do with some sort of box that are installed in some older buildings. I forgot what it's called.

I'll keep calling. Thanks!

Did you check all of the phone cords in your house for damage?

I had a very similar problem, and I found my cat had been chewing on one of my phone cords. One of the wires was still together, but close to being in two pieces. It didn't effect my regular phones, but I guess the wire was no longer capable of carrying the stronger DSL signal.

I don't know if you have fixed this problem yet, since this thread was made in march I assume you have already solved your problem but here is the solution anyways. Unplug all of your phones in your house/apartment, call your house/apartment and If the orange light flashes with no phones plugged in, you probably have a bad line card. Just call your isp and tell them thats whats wrong and they will send a technician to fix it. If the light doesnt come on plug in 1 phone in at a time and call you house, eventually you will plug in a phone and the orange light will come on.... just throw that phone away or don't use it. If this doesnt fix it you probably have something wrong with your line, just contact your isp provide for assistance.

Its 2007 and I am having this problem too. Phone is in use DSL disconnects ; hang up the phone DSL re-connects.
I also use SBC. I have called SBC. They came out checked and checked. They installed a super filter for the whole house - no joy.
Conclusion was it must be the home wiring. Its a new home so I called in the buillder and wiring company. Conclusion - it must be SBC ( no surprise ) !!

So remedy is drop DSL and go with COMCAST cable ?
