|
|
I started my computer today, we have Windows 98, & the screen saver & the icons were fuzzy. When I got on-line our home page kept taking us to HTTP 500 internal server error. I went to Internet Options & changed the home page back to Yahoo. That works fine. But my screen is still fuzzy. For instance, the scroll down bar is dotted instead of a solid color, the scroll across is dotted & has dash lines & the colors are strange, everything has grey tones & is dots & dashes instead of colors. Kind of a bland color to it. When I go to my Yahoo Mail & click on an email to be deleted, the screen flashes. The pointer bar flashes when I type a letter.
I have ran Spyblaster, Spybot & Lavasoft Adaware & have rid the computer of spies.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Bonnie

Hi bonnieboo_13 - sorry I havent a clue what happened however if your PC was working OK yesterday, provided you havent installed any other new hardware or software, you could try a manual restore of your registry to the last good backup. Win98 backs up 5 copies of your registry by default.
Reboot into DOS using:
Start > Shutdown > Reboot to MS-DOS mode
You will now be in DOS mode, and it should look like this: C:\Windows>
now type scanreg /restore
(note the space between "scanreg" and the forward slash)
At blue screen, use your mouse or keyboard arrows to choose a date which you know the registry was fine. The date you choose must say "Started" next to it. (try not to choose the oldest date, it probably will not restore).
Make sure the word "Restore" is highlighted, and press your keyboards Enter key. At the "You have restored........." prompt, press your keyboards Enter key.
Your computer will restart in MS-DOS mode again. At the MS-DOS prompt, type Exit and press your keyboards Enter key. Computer will then re-start in Windows. See if that helps. _________________ Microsoft MVP - Windows Desktop Experience 2004-2008
