Hi Guys,

There are now a couple of days that I cannot update AVPE using the "START INTERNET UPDATE" tool. I was obliged to go to ZDNET and pull down the latest version, any ideas, news or infos.

Thx,
Frederic

AVPE files on my PC
Program file: 6.30.00.17
Scan Engine: 6.30.0.7
VDF: 6.30.0.131

There has been a problem with some ISPs over the last couple of days - but it should have resolved itself by now.

If you dig out your logfiles for updating (from C:/Program files/AVPersonal/Logfiles) you will note that it contains the following entry:- "Error opening the internet file!
The server name or address could not be resolved".

This is a DNS difficulty related to your ISP and has nothing to do with your machine. Check that this is the case and if so it is just a question of waiting for the problem to be corrected.

I should add that apparently this was not caused by AntiVir - it is not due to the H+BEDV servers themselves. So they can't be blamed!

Hi TopperId,

Thx very much for your input. Here is a copy below of the log file and I believe you're right.

"This is a DNS difficulty related to your ISP and has nothing to do with your machine. Check that this is the case and if so it is just a question of waiting for the problem to be corrected. "

Yes, that's it. The problem has been affecting some people in France and the UK since about Friday.

I think there are six download servers, and your machine will try and connect with each one in turn. If it fails with all of them, you get the error message.

Yes, you could contact them, or just let things resolve themselves. Why not try manual updating at night - that may work.

Edit - you just beat me to the post! Razz

Glad to hear it's now working Laughing
