Hmmm, you got a strange one there Pete, don't think I have seen that message since Win95 Smile

I would like the version of Win98 (first or second edition)

Make & specs of the target machine.

I have one machine (Digital Venturis PI/133MHz) that will NOT load first edition.....and I know of about 200 other instances with the same make & model. Loads second edition fine though?

Something you might try is to go into setup & your BIOS configuration. Leave level 1 & 2 level caches on. Disable all other "shadowing" & "caching" then try it again after re-booting.

It is a memory error of some sort.........how much have you got in your machine?

Keep us posted

Cheers
