Hi, i have Windows XP and somehow I lost my thumbnail and image preview through a DOS command. It happened when I was searching the Internet for a solution to a video problem (my 60 meg .avi files would only show 20 second clips of video then the audio would keep going and the video was lost..... but if i clicked halfway through the video I could see further into tha video than I could if I just let it run through. If you could help with this I would be extremely happy as well. haha ). Anyway, I found some DOS code that said it might work, so i typed it in and I lost my image and thumnail preview, and the problem with my .avi still remains. please help. thank you for your time

I really would need to know what the code was. Do you remember where you found it? Or even what you searched for in google when you found it?

i re-searched for what it was and the page had disappeared.. it was on some other forum... and when i re-searched it was gone.
the code disables preview options for pictures.

Hello sombramigo,
Try using System Restore to return your computer to a restore point before you ran the DOS command.

To regain the thumbnail preview, try these commands from Start, Run:
regsvr32 shimgvw.dll
regsvr32 shmedia.dll _________________ Ramesh Srinivasan, Microsoft MVP [Windows Shell]
