I have a computer with Windows XP Pro, that no longer opens windows instead giving me the message stating that the file: C:\WINDOWS\system32\config\system is corrupt or missing. It told me to use the windows xp cd and repair console to fix this problem. I have looked up all the articles telling you how to do this, and it would be perfectly fine except for one minor detail. Everytime i press 1 then enter to select which hardrive to open the recovery console for, I get the blue screen of death stating that the computer is being shut down to prevent registry damage or the likes. What should i do? I've tried safe mode, safe mode with command prompt, last known good configuration, none of it works, i still get the same corrupt or missing file. I can't reformat or repair because i get the blue screen of death. How am I going to fix this problem?

You're going to have to attempt a Repair-Install. Instructions here: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Extra info is provided in the left-hand panel.

Welcome to CastleCops. Very Happy
