I ran Housecall from here housecall60.trendmicro.com
it downloads the scanner and runs pretty quickly up to
21% then it says it's scanning for viruses and it stops.
The gauge is still blinking back and forth like it's still
scanning or running but it just sits there, I think I
waited about 20 minutes.I have a dial-up connection
do you think it might take longer? Do you know of
any smaller or faster online scanners to use as an
alternative to housecall? Or should I just go back and
wait I ran Housecall a couple years ago and I think it
took 45min to an Hour. I changed the activeX and
security settings so I don't think it's a WinXP-SP2
issue. Thanks for any help

Try running CCleaner first.

No point scanning temporary files, browser cache and so on - it takes time and they will get dumped eventually anyway
