i bought and old hp 733 mhz and i am trying to install xp pro on it. the place that i bought it from wiped clean the hard drive. i turn it on and it does not detect the hd and its plugged in. i put the xp pro disk in and then it says that it is preparing to configure system . i gues what i am asking is the cables hooked up wrong and the power cord wrong, is the hd faulty is there a system recovery disk i need or download or put it on a diskette i just need help this is for my son. HELP!!

See if this helps - Clean Install Windows XP. _________________ Take only memories, leave nothing but footprints.

you can use a windows 98 boot disc with cd support to fidsk and then format.
I would do that first,then try to install XP..

When doing a clean xp install choose the option to delete all partitions on the drive and then create a new partition , format it and then install .
