This is driving me insane. Am trying to install a Symantec AntiVirus Home CD distributed from work. I had Sym Internet Securty 2005 which has since expired about 1 week ago. After I pop the CD in, I get the message "The MSI must be launched through setup". Went to Symatec site and tried following the instructions to use the Norton uninstall tool and download the MSIFIX.bat, SymNRT.exe, and SYMMSICLEANUP.reg. It won't work! Every time I click on the link to install, it goes to a "page cannot be displayed". Tried waiting for Symantec's live chat helpline and waited FOREVER until I was last in the queue, only to get a "Sorry, no reps available at this time" message! I refuse to pay $29.99 to TALK to someone, but that is my last resort I guess.

I've had it. If anyone can help me fix my problem, please please please let me know. I am a bit paranoid that my PC is going without anti-virus right now.

Please be aware that the telephone number above charges $29.95 USD per call to your credit card.

As for further help, please see this topic: CastleCops Link/t106731-Read_this_before_installing_ANY_Norton_or_Symantec_product.html

You must remove old Symantec programs before installing new. Try using Add/Remove Programs first.

The fact that your browser will not download makes me suspect you are already infected by something.

We recommend that you follow our Malware Removal and Prevention procedure, a new system we have devised to enable users to either partially, or fully clean their systems without the direct aid of an expert.

Get yourself a freeware antivirus to fill the gap until you can sort out the Symantec mess. I would suggest AVG by Grisoft. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

Best regards
