Could someone advise me how to edit my boot.ini file as shown below, so that it will default to Win Xp on start-up. At present it defaults to Win98 after 30 seconds.

[Boot Loader]
timeout=30
Default=C:\

[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn
C:\="Microsoft Windows 98"

Did you first try,

In XP,
System Properties,
Advanced Tab,
Startup and Recovery,
Settings,
Change the OS in the Default Operating System drop down menu.

This would be safer than manually editing boot.ini

If only all things in life were so simple.
Tried your suggestion (should have read the instructions on the box!) and has now booted straight into XP.
Thanks
