Hi,
I have a PC here which has had the hard drive wiped/reformatted.
I also have Windows 2000 Pro CDs which I want to install on it, so I fitted a CD Drive to the IDE bus (set to IDE Slave) and the BIOS sees that drive and identifies its manufacturer.
I then made a DOS boot floppy from an XP machine by formatting a floppy and selecting 'copy system files'. This gets the blank machine to boot up MSDOS, but it can't see the hard drive or CD Drive - when I type 'cd c:' or
'cd d:' I get an Invalid Drive Specified error.
There seem to be commands missing from MSDOS as well - 'format' returns a No Such Command error for instance.
Can anyone help please?

As Cundi pointed out make sure that your system is booting from cd first .
From there 2000 has built in functions to format and install that do not (in most cases) require the use of any boot disks or third party utilities .

It is set to boot from CD , though this disc is not (ahem) entirely original - this was going to be a temporary test machine.... _________________ "For evil to triumph utterly, it is only necessary that good men do nothing."

A functional copy of 2000 and a 2000 key are all that is requires .
Boot from disk , press enter on the first screen , f8 on the next and then you should be at the 2000 installer . From there use the built in functions to delete all of the hard disk's partitions , format and then install .

Hi downie,
I agree - a legitimate copy of Windows is the first step. If you still experience problems using this then we can assist you, having eliminated one variable in the equation.
