Please help me! My copy of excel 2003 has a number of corrupt files that I need to recover, the pc is telling me that they are too damaged to completly repair. I am running on Windows xp professional and the Excel help tells me that converting the files to an earlier edition of Excel could fix the problem but where can I get one of those without spending a lot of money? Please help these are business accounts so I do need them. Also these files are emailed to another computer on a weekly basis I don't know if this could have started the problem. Thanks.

Are these spreadsheets? What is the exact error message?
What are the errors in eventviewer logs?
(Start, Run, and type eventvwr)
do you still have access to the emailed ones (can be used as backups)?

Yes these are spreadsheets. The message states that; Errors were detected in '05-08-06 to 11-08-06.xls,' but Microsoft Excel was able to open the file by making repairs listed below. Save file to make these repairs pemanent.
Below it states;
Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attempted to recover your formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted.
The emailed copy also is corrupted in the same way.
The event viewer states;
Faulting application excel.exe, version 11.0.8033.0, stamp 449c38b, faulting module excel.exe, version 11.0.8033.0, stamp 449c38b, debug? 0, fault adress 0x00231f6b.
I can still get most of the information but it is corrupt and I am worried this will continue on a week to week basis and get worse thankyou for looking I hope you can help.

"...
Translation: This error sometimes occurs when you try to open a file in Excel 2003 that has been previously saved in an earlier version of Excel. The workbook may be damaged or corrupted, and you will experience this error even though the Excel file opens without any problem in your earlier version of Excel. ..."
So whoever was using the .xls has previous Exce; version. Without access to previous version to try
"...
Solution: If you have the earlier version of Excel available, install it on the computer where you have Excel 2003 installed. Open the original file, copy the file, and paste it into an open Excel 2003 workbook. You should now be able to save the file in Excel 2003.
..."
maybe ask the other person to resave the file in different formats (Excel 97 etc) hoping it will get rid of whatever corruption.

This does not seem to be the cause of the problem as both versions of Excel are the same age on both computers, whenever borders and shading are used the file will not save correctly as when it is saved the corrupt message appears. Please help as my Mrs uses Excel a lot more than I do and she is giving me grief to get it fixed, thanks.

Hi, Trooper
You can try a popular Excel file recovery tool called Advanced Excel Repair to repair your Excel file. It is a powerful tool to repair corrupt or damaged Excel files.
Detailed information about Advanced Excel Repair can be found at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/
And you can also download a free demo version at http://www.datanumen.com/aer/aer.exe
