When I go to log off of Window's I click start and Log off. I can Log off, but I can't switch user? It will not let me switch users. Me and my wife both have our own profiles and we have to log off to get to the other ones. Is there a way to fix this so I can use the switch user button? When I click on it, the computer does not do anything.

Thanks,

Sean

I've moved this question to the Windows XP forum. Better place for it.

Now, are you talking about wanting to be able to use Fast User Switching?

Yes when the button did work it would switch over and not log off like it does now, and not take so long. I would also like for the button to work again. Very Happy

Hi Snowwolf,
Sorry that it has taken so long for someone to respond to you. It happens from time to time.

Click on start > run. Type services.msc in the box and press "Enter". Check to make sure that "Fast User Switching" and "Terminal Services" are enabled and started.

I changed it to start and set startup type to Automatic under properties, there was no enabled just Disable, Automatic and manual. It is working now, but will this mess up any of my security settings and make my computer vunalbe? Do you have any idea how this could have been disabled? It was working fine for a long time then it stopped working. Did I do it right?

Hi snowwolf,

Yes you did it correctly..You can also turn on/off the feature through user accounts..Not sure why it stopped, it may have been accidentally turned off or just a glitch..I use fast user switching all the time to bounce from my administrator account to the limited one and have never found it to be a security risk..

The following links will give you information on how to enable and explain the workings of fast user switching...
