Trying to help a friend here by IM with an installation issue he is having. It's a strange one as I myself have never had a single problem with installation or use of avg free. This error seems to be referring to Microsoft Outlook, yet the computer he is trying to install this on has no Outlook installed.

Here is the error message that he is getting. Any help in getting me to understand it would be appreciated.

Local Machine: installation failed
Initialization:
Error: Checking of state of the item directory Microsoft \Outlook (default user, systemprofile,Local service)failed
Data error(cyclic redundancy check). (23) %PATH%="C:\Documents and settings\Local Service\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook"

Very strange. I have had him try just about everything. We have verified that he is using the proper installation file, there is no other AV program running and most definately Outlook is not installed or used on the machine.

Anyhelp in figuring this one out is appreciated.

make him run chkdsk to check the drive
