Hi All! Have REALLY enjoyed this site! Somehow I got a bad bad thingie on my computer and have used your site and some others. Not really sure if I have it all cleaned up or not, but I definitely am learning quite a bit!

Have read some posts and just so you know where I'm coming from I have posted my definitions!

Web - spidery thing that needs a broom to remove (watch for red bellied spiders)

Iron - (saw this on one post mentioned repeatedly) the electric triangle thingie I plug in once in a blue moon to get rid of wrinkles

Trojan - umm, this is something worn to prevent pregnancy

Virus - drink ginger ale and eat Saltine crackers

Forum - Hubby's words when asking me to get a cup of brew for his friend, "Would ya mind gettin some coffee forum?"

Castle Cops - Police on the beach who search for illegal building permits

Hardware - includes nuts and bolts, handles and levers, door knobs and locks

Tech - make physical contact with "Mama, Joey tried to tech me!"

Application - Forms one fills out to get kids into Scouting, 4H Clubs, Summer Camp, Schools, etc.

Bits - leftover material on highchair after baby has finished meal

LAN Local Area Network - list of all the mom's in the neighborhood willing to take your bairns on a moment's notice

So, as you can see, I am extremely computer challenged and I have latent blonde genes to contend with.

This combination makes for one heck of a conversation with any and all computer geeks!

I do make great chicken soup though!!

Glad to be here!

Laura

Laura - As our Folding Forum host Tim is used to dealing with blondes, I think he might be able to give
you a crash course on folding, something to help you pay back just a little of the knowledge you've
learned here as well as you getting great satisfaction from giving something you don't use anyway to someone
who could really use it, possibly even you or a loved family member... Tim - Take it away!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome Lt. Peggy and SRT Andy! I have checked out the folding site to some degree - it looks like research studies on computers. I would like to participate when I figure out more of what is wrong with my computer as well as learn more about folding. I have to take one baby step at a time!

I noticed I am a Cadet which is so cool!

Hello again, Laura!

Continue contributing and you will move up in rank Smile
See this article from our Wiki to see the list of ranks you can achieve. As a matter of fact, the wiki is a great place to gain new knowledge. Check out the Malware Removal and Prevention Procedure to get yourself started on removing the junk from your computer.

Good Luck! Very Happy

Thanks MrSugg! Good luck with your training!

And SRT Andy, Believe it or not, I've been in the wiki Malware Removal And Prevention Procedure section forever! That's how I figured out which Ad-aware to download as well as the CCleaner. I've printed out the steps but I'm hung up on a number of them! (It's very sad to say honestly!)

I do not completely understand or how to finish numbers 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 and 9. And I'm not sure I did numbers 6 and 7 correctly! So basically, I've completed the first step to my satisfaction! But I'm not sure why that is important - I would think a log would be important after I have tried everything.

I put a post on one forums about how to clean up my cache - that's where I am trying to start - hopefully it's basics and I can build on that knowledge with maintenance issues before I tackle the wiki stuff - suffice to say, I've been all over the wiki pages and have printed out tons of papers!

It seems I attempt one thing, then I have so many questions and click on this link and that link to get explanations and instructions and it gets very overwhelming! Honestly, I don't know WHERE to start so I just picked something simple (cache) - but it's not so simple!

So hopefully I can try all the steps to do normal maintenance and then go back to the malware removal and try to attempt that again.

Things are better, but I know there is something wrong!

If I am traversing the wrong path on fixing my slow computer, please advise!

Thanks again!
Laura

Thanks Paul! (Are you THE Paul? The 5 star General Paul??)

I am SO excited to find this forum! I had never imagined a site so full of helpful information that I actually could somewhat understand!!

Listen to this! I did a Wike hijack this log and then I looked at all the items in the startup section (starting with 04)

and I recognized 3 of them, msn messenger, aol, and realtime player - I knew I didn't need them to start up - I followed directions on how to stop them from starting up and ran another wiki hijack this log and POOF!! They were gone!! I still have some more 04's to work on, but right now, they seem too advanced, so I am going back to maintenance again!

I am SO proud of myself! If more people like me (pc illiterate) knew of a site like this, they could learn so much and not feel so overwhelmed with what really are simple problems to fix! Ya just have to know HOW!!

Thanks all!

You don't know how excited I am!!!!

Now THAT is too cool Mr. Prince! Thanks for the welcome and I love your book! I don't even KNOW what a root kit is yet! I'm still working on cleaning my cache and deleting unwanted programs and trying to explain my problem when I don't have the vocabulary to describe the problem succintly!

I really love this site - I'm reading the posts in this Computer Problems Forum - only the ones I know what the heck they are talking about - which isn't very much, but I am trying to familiarize myself with the vocabulary!

Thanks again!

He's dreamy, isn't he? Love

Welcome, Laura, and thanks for the smiles. Tim is in charge of the spinny thingies. Order him to give him one, or that you'll put a voodoo hex on the Sabres. Razz
