My internet connection will randomly time out every now and then (Using a wireless router, and no it's not the connection status) I think it is the PC itself because my other PC is connected fine. One time while it happened i happened to have cmd.exe open and i saw this:

Winsock Error 10054, something about being reset by peer?

How would I be able to fix this and I had 2 different routers and 2 different adapters and both of them had the same situation.

Hi Smile

"Connection reset by peer" would indicate that this is not a problem with your computer but with your ISP. The 10054 error message you are getting means that the remote host (in this case, your ISP) closed the connection.

That dosent make sense though, why would my ISP be doing that? My upstairs computer has never had a 10054 error.

If this is XP with SP2, then do the following:

Go to Start and click on Run. Copy and paste the following into the Run box:

netsh winsock reset

and tap <Enter>. Wait one minute and then reboot. See if you are still having the same problem. If this is not XP with SP2 this fix will not work at all and a different fix is needed, in which case, post your operating system and service pack level.

Also, assuming you are on broadband, what is the rated speed of your broadband line? Your RWIN may need tweaking as well regardless of what OS you are using. If you are not using broadband, then this is not necessary.

i forgot to mention that it automatically fixes itself after i restart, without any extra work being done. Any way i can fix it without having to reboot?
