|

I have a brand new HP Compaq dx2300 MT with an Intel dual E2140 processor at 1.6 GHz, 512 MB ram, and Windows XP Pro (with all SP/patches). It is a member of an Active Directory 2000 domain. For some reason, whenever I try to browse the network, Windows Explorer stops responding. This is especially problematic because several of our home-grown software applications run from executables stored on the network.
It's only this computer, but this is the newest computer, and I'm suspecting that subsequent new computers will have similar issues. I did notice something new on the computer - some kind of Windows Indexing and Search thing down in the Sys Tray. When I exited from it the other day, everything ran fine. So I found a way to disable it completely, but today it doesn't seem to be helping. Yesterday, retyping the passwords for the ODBC connections (for the home-grown apps) resolved the problem - however that is also not helping today. I also tried turning off the Windows Firewall - also not the culprit.
Help please!!!

The Internet works fine on this computer, as does browsing local folders through Windows Explorer.

Hi,
Do you have the rights to access the network?
Maybe this will help you:

The solution to the problem ended up being to change the network cable between the computer and the wall jack.
I never suspected this originally because I was under the (false) impression that cables either worked or didn't - I didn't realize that they could partially work.
Thank you for your input and suggestions
