Hi unit86,
What I would do is recover Vista to a restore point before this error
message started happeneing. Use all you system tools, like PC Doctor,
to scan all you H/W, etc. Scan also for viruses, trojans, spyware, malware, etc. Be sure that you update your virus & trojan, etc. definitions
Hope this may help? Take care & I hope you've resolved the prob. Post
back here if you require more help. Also DL HijackThis, so you can send
a copy of what's going on with your system & submit to the Hijack This
Forum.
I hope everything works out for you _________________ Warm Regards,

Hi again unit86,
I meant to add, because you're getting your start
up error.
Do the "Splash Screen(s)" come up at all? With HP,
I know you press F11 as your system is booting up,
some different, but for CMOS/BIOS, it's usually F1
or F2, but don't mess around in there unless you
really, really know what you're doing
Pressing on F11 brings up my System Restore, so
I'm wondering if yours does the same?
It just might over-ride the bootup error. Then you can
restore.
Also don't forget to do regular backups. They
always come in handy when one is having a PC/
Laptop problem Take care & I hope you get
this prob resolved _________________ Warm Regards,

First of all, that doesn't sound like an 'error' message at all - more like an informational dialog box - no error is specified, and in fact it looks more like the contents of a registry entry for something that either isn't set right or else is simply opening because something, perhaps on the desktop, is trying to load an icon or shell namespace that isn't defined correctly. My first question is tis: Is this *all* that the error message says?
Can you post a screen shot?
David (esacnitsuj)'s suggestion to do a restore may help, but if it is something that you have added (such as a program you installed, or else a dock icon you added using Herby's text less desktop icons, or something similar, then we have to figure out what was added, where it was added, and why it was added.
Can you post a small screen shot of what the dialog box looks like? _________________ <img src="http://www.castlecops.com/zx/johnlgalt/johnlgalt%20sig.png">

After I went back to check what his message said:
| Quote: | [.ShellClassInfo]
LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21798
IconResource=%SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll,-184 |
There is no error message. Oh well...Learn something new every day
Sending "Screen Shot" is a really a good idea. I've also had a couple
of e-mails from friends who are into security, and they say there's yet
another really bad virus going around. I haven't checked the e-mails yet,
but I'm going to do that when I wake up
Yes...a screen shot would be nice. It would help us a lot!
