I have a new iMac and know nothing about wireless networking. My current intentions are to avoid using any Internet for this machine - wired or wireless. I've come to realize there is a built in wireless modem - the Airport. I'm showing at least one password protected network nearby. This raises many questions some of which probably cannot be answered on this site.
My question here is one of security. I do not have any wired Internet connection connected. With this Airport am I secure? Is it possible for my system to be accessed from an outside source?
Thanks. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/ryanchristianrobles

That is probably a router from one of your neighbors. It shows you that you can connect to that 'access point' to get on the internet. You need to have the password to connect to it.

The Airport modem isn't security. It only enables you to connect to certain access points like the password protected network nearby. As long as you don't connect to any network, so be disconnected from the Internet, you are secure.
Do you have anymore questions?

Well since you asked.. How do I hack the password protected network to allow me access to the Internet?
I don't think we can discuss this here, can we? Is this type of behavior frowned upon? I have to admit - it seems too cool not to try. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/ryanchristianrobles
